If you've ever fancied playing the financial markets, then you might be in store for a book that could help you do just that. Since the privatisation revolution in the 1980s, the opportunity for the general population to hold shares in private companies has exploded. With the advent of the internet, as with most business ventures, this opportunity has become stellar.

Robbie Burn's book `The Naked Trader' takes the uninitiated share trader through the various ways that shares can be traded on line, with advice on how to make serious money so that you can give up your day job.

Opening with a description of a typical day in the life of a naked trader, the book is logically set out allowing easy understanding of the sections being described. There are chapters on what you need to know - for instance, do you know what spread betting is, or what shorting means?

Continuing the theme of telling the reader everything, the book looks at strategies and techniques a home trader can follow to maximise the return on their investments, and just as importantly, stop making the mistakes that will detract from your efforts. There is a lot to learn, and there is no substitute for advice from people who has done it before, and there are links to websites, other books, as well as offers to meet the author giving one of his seminars on the subject.

I found this an incredibly easy book to read. There is a lot of information that needs to be understood in order to maximise any monetary gain from naked trading. However, this is a book that will answer most if not all questions a beginner to this business might ask. So, look down the sides of the sofa, and search out those lost fivers and tenners.

This is a book that you need to read if you aspire to a bankers bonus.

This book really is a great introduction to the world of investing and doing so successfully. The relaxed style makes it very approachable whilst telling you what you need to know.

I bought this book after seeing it recommended many times and are definitely not disappointed I did. As someone with a reasonable level of experience, I found I was able to identify some of the common mistakes it highlights as being ones I've made and can easily relate to the investing style of the author. Hopefully I can now learn from the common pitfalls he mentions rather than having to make them myself.

The book promotes a realistic potential trading outcome. The author doesn't pretend that every share you'll buy will be a "ten bagger" and nor should you since most shares which will ever achieve that kind of growth are generally high risk. High risk shares should make up a proportion of your portfolio but never all of it. You might have the odd "ten bagger" but you'll also have a reasonable number of companies going into administration and loose all your money. Everyone's attitude to risk does of course vary so whether you take a more cautious approach to trading is up to you but regardless, this book should be helpful in avoiding too much of your capital disappearing in search of that elusive "ten bagger".

This book is not going to turn you into an expert investor overnight, that isn't what it is meant to do, but it will give you a good foundation knowledge which you can then build upon through experience and reading some of the more technical books which are likely to be too intimating to someone completely new to trading. I'd recommended this as the first book anyone buys but don't think it will be the last if you are really serious about succeeding.

Great. 5 Mar 2008

Although I have yet to find the time, spare cash or the confidence to start trading I do think that this book will prove invaluable to me when I finally do. The advice is not going to guarantee you a fortune over night or even guarantee you success. However it will make the whole world of stocks and shares much less of a mystery whilst providing you with some very useful hints tips and information. Looking over some of my friend's dealings and losses I now understand approximately where they may have gone wrong. Had they read this book first they may have saved themselves some money. Even such seemingly simple advice about setting loss stops and never buying into the `falling knife' stocks is very helpful. The author includes many examples of winning and losing scenarios as well as pointers on where deals often go wrong.
As other reviewers have said the book is very easy to read in a sitting or two, and also amusing in places.
I will be passing this on to my unsuccessful share dealing friends, and recommend it to anyone still in their early days of dealing.

Superb book
This is much more than a very educational and motivational book. It's an enjoyable and gripping read, which for a book about the stock market is really impressive.
