Science and technology are constantly improving, enhancing and rewriting the rules for what we humans are capable of. In the early days of mankind, the technological breakthrough was a wheel, much later came the printing press, and in very recent years, the Internet. Technology is moving at a frenetic pace nowadays, as centuries of momentum and advancements have turned our present day into a world of wonder.
This book serves as a fantastic window into many of those "everyday" developments that are happening at the very edge of modern day science. The breadth of science topics are impressive here; facets featured are as varied as medicine, photography, astronomy, marine biology, geology, genetics, biotechnology, electricity, and the environment, to name but a few. It is safe to say no "stone" of science was left unturned in the making of this book. You will learn about how we evolved ears, how our walks can identify us, the increasing pace of discovery of earth like planets, advancements in tattoo technology, genetically modified cows, landing space probes on asteroids, advancements in fighting diseases and on and on....
As a bonus feature to an already surprising book, there are a few dozen Factoids peppered throughout, sort of the literary equivalent to MythBusters, if you will. After reading this book, you will be reminded that science is indeed fun, the future is now, and the whole planet is actively conspiring in making this world a better place for you and I!

He makes everything so fun and interesting, a good read. It's more like a series of facts than a full novel but that doesn't diminish its quality in any way.
It arrived on time, good quality etc. No issues.

1.0 out of 5 stars Where is the 'Everyday Life' in this book? 26 Mar 2011
By Christian Kober - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I am a scientist myself and therefore very much interested in books which popularze science, which enlighten me about everyday phenomena and which expose frauds and falshoods. The more I was disappointed by 'The Science of Everyday Life'.
The book is an unconnected collection of small scientific tidbits. There is no red line leading through the book. Furthermore there are few or none of these information related to everyday life. Actually they all are related to potential future applications: Nanobots using heart muscle cells for walking, blinding insects to smell, that the next generation of PCs might be made from biological materials (an old canard, which I had first heard in the 80s).
The language is a mixture of dry and schoolboy flippant, which also does not lend itself to enjoyable reading.
Overall this is a shame, as I have often enjoyed visiting the homepage of 'The Naked Scientist' and as such a book could have been so humorous and fun to read.
