Product Description

Tired of aggressive, ungrateful customers, hapless motor-cycle repair shop owner, Simon Jones, decides that enough is enough. Encouraged by a newfound ‘gift’, he decides that it’s time to seek a new and better life.

His savvy wife, Hazel, isn’t impressed by his ‘gift’, but agrees that a week’s holiday in Cornwall with the kids, Becky and Ben, and their delinquent golden retriever, Orpheus, would be a good idea, a chance to consider their future.

During the holiday, an incident in a gift shop sparks an entrepreneurial idea, and they return home full of plans to set up a new business.

Initially, the business goes very well but an unanticipated disaster strikes, leading to near bankruptcy.

Desperate for money, Simon has a short spell working in a factory warehouse followed by a longer one as an unsuccessful insurance salesman.

One day he returns home from work, broke and full of despair, to be met by someone from the past, someone who, with the help of the naked emperor syndrome, eventually leads Simon and Hazel to a new life of fame and fortune.

Brilliantly funny 25 Jun 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Having read the fantastic `Broken Cats and Cowboy Hats', I bought this book expecting more of the same. But it isn't, it's completely different, moving away from the incredibly dark to the ultra light - I can't believe that the two books are by the same author!

This one is sooooo funny - a dozen smiles on every page interspersed by numerous laugh out loud moments, and all wrapped up in a brilliant story.

So, if you like funny AND a good story, buy this book. You won't regret it. I'm now wondering what this author will come up with next, and looking forward to finding out!

This is a fantastic read... Highly recommended! A++++

This is the second novel that Roger Knowles has delivered, each one drawing you into the book and emphasising with the characters. Whilst his other title "Broken Cats & Cowboy Hats" is a gripping Crime/Thriller, "The Naked Emperor" is a more lighthearted read.

This book is delivers the package of intention.... as it is guaranteed to deliver a few smiles and laughs along the way, but as you immerse yourself in the story, you will also find that there are a few touching moments where with everyday life you will be able to relate to these....

Roger Knowles is a very talented author, and with each novel he writes he has the gift to involve each and every reader within the life's of the characters and we are left feeling as though we are familiar with the characters also.

With each and every book sale, 50% of any proceeds from this book will be used to offer understanding, support and advice to the hundreds of thousands of UK Chronic Fatigue Syndrome sufferers via a dedicated support forum. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a widely misunderstood but totally debilitating disease. The Author is a sufferer.

Perfect holiday read 26 Jun 2011
By mermaid
Format:Kindle Edition
In a complete departure from the subject of his last dark-themed book, Broken Cats and Cowboy Hats, Roger Knowles' new book The Naked Emperor, I found to be more of a relaxing read. In fact, it would make the perfect book to take on holiday with you, as the first part is set in that lovely holiday destination of Cornwall, and it won't stress you, but will amuse you.

I was quite puzzled by the title, and it doesn't figure until near the end, but it all comes together in a very satisfactory and heart-warming way. En route there are some lovely humorous scenes .... I will admit that I am a hard person to amuse, but my favourite was the scene with David of Reliant selling insurance to an unsuspecting client. There are also some lovely scenes with Orph the recalcitrant dog.
