OK - it's not a fantasy horror with dragons, wards and behemoths.
But it is extremely informative, concise (believe it or not), and a very handy guide.
I'm on the NHS graduate management scheme and, after researching what I could online, I decided that I needed a book to guide me through the NHS. I hadn't previously worked in this beast of an institution, knew it was complex, but didn't realise just how much so.
This book includes graphs and flowcharts, excellent (if a little dry, probably due to the concise nature of the book) commentary on both groups and policies (including some very up-to-date commentary on current political changes to the NHS, something that rather surprised me), and aided me to appreciate the NHS for what it is - before I had even set foot inside the door.
After attending the Welcome Event for graduate scheme participants, I realised just how much I had learnt via this book. I able to relate a lot of what I was told directly to the book and it gave me a good deal of confidence in asking questions, which only furthered my knowledge.
I'd recommend this book for any NHS graduate scheme participants in the future / present, or anyone that is looking to join the NHS in the near future and has ambition.
