Book Description

18 Oct 2007 GOLLANCZ S.F.

Ryhope Wood: a tract of English woodland in the Herefordshire countryside wherein reside the creatures and configurations of ancient myth, the mythagos.

In Ryhope Wood, ancient secrets and memories, both real and imaginery, take on physical form, from the Green Man and the Wild Hunt to Jason and Taliesen: heores made flesh - and yet unpredictable, for they change according to how mankind sees and thinks about them.

And those who wander into the shadowed dephths of this ancient, primal woodland will never be the same again: they go in seeking adventure, or love, or family, but what they find in Ryhope Wood defies description and changes them for all time.

4.0 out of 5 stars the saga continues 10 Oct 2012

I had never heard of this writer or this series of books until I picked up Mythago Cycle Volume 1 by chance in a second hand book store. I love all things mystical and fairy like and these books are full of it. The imagery pulls you right into the world of the wood and you really lose yourself in it. I dont think this volume is as good as Volume 1 (which would get a def 5 stars) - the imagery was as good but the plot sagged a bit in the middle of the first story. Starting the second story so looking forward to seeing how it compares. Nevertheless, don't let this put you off. If you are looking for a good fantasy series with brilliant concepts and ideas that make you think, then this won't disappoint. I'm really glad I found this!
