About the Author

Louisa May Alcott was both an abolitionist and a feminist. She is best known for Little Women (1868), a semiautobiographical account of her childhood years with her sisters in Concord, Massachusetts. Alcott, unlike Jo, never married: ''... because I have fallen in love with so many pretty girls and never once the least bit with any man.'' She was an advocate of women's suffrage and was the first woman to register to vote in Concord, Massachusetts. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A FASCINATING & ROMANTIC MYSTERY 22 Jan 2011
By Eleni TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a great mystery story by Louisa May Alcott, that although is very different from her other, more famous novels, it is excellently written, fascinating, and definitely worth reading.

It is the story of a family haunted by prophesies, secrets, and passions and of people bound by promises and honour, which prevent them from finding happiness. Louisa May Alcott manages to comment on the restrictions that society imposes on people, women in particular, while maintaining a sense of suspense and a gripping plot.

A note on the Kindle edition: luckily I found no errors, it was extremely easy to download, and a pleasure to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars An enduring mystery story 10 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A great mystery story written by the author of Little Women etc. This mystery novel is quite different to the moralistic Little Women series, and it completely overlooked. A really good read, with a twist in the tail. Give it a try.
