From Amazon.co.uk

Proving that bigger is rarely better, The Mummy Returns serves up so much action and so many computer-generated effects that it quickly grows exhausting. In his zeal to establish a lucrative franchise, writer-director Stephen Sommers dispenses with such trivial matters as character development and plot logic, and charges headlong into an almost random buffet of minimum story and maximum mayhem, beginning with a prologue establishing the ominous fate of the Scorpion King (played by World Wrestling Federation star the Rock, in a cameo teaser for his later starring role in--you guessed it--The Scorpion King). Dormant for 5,000 years, under control of the Egyptian god Anubis, the Scorpion King will rise again in 1933, which is where we find The Mummy's returning heroes Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, now married and scouring Egyptian ruins with their 8-year-old son, Alex (Freddie Boath).

John Hannah (as Weisz's brother) and Oded Fehr (as mystical warrior Ardeth Bay) also return from The Mummy, and trouble begins when Alex dons the Scorpion King's ancient bracelet, coveted by the evil mummy Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), who's been revived by... oh, but does any of this matter? With a plot so disposable that it's impossible to care about anything that happens, The Mummy Returns is best enjoyed as an intermittently amusing and physically impressive monument of Hollywood machinery, with gorgeous sets that scream for a better showcase, and digital trickery that tops its predecessor in ambition, if not in payoff. By the time our heroes encounter a hoard of ravenous pygmy mummies, you'll probably enjoy this movie in spite of itself. --Jeff Shannon

Product Description

Sequel to the 1999 swashbuckling Eqyptology adventure. Rick (Brendan Fraser) and Evie (Rachel Weisz), the stars of the orginal film, have now settled down to married life in London with their 8-year-old son Alex. Meanwhile, the British museum is playing host to the corpse of Imhotep, the mummy which had previously given Rick and Evie such a hard time. When ancient magic brings Imhotep back to life, a chain of events is set in motion that will lead to the end of the world, thus forcing Rick and Evie to dust-off their mummy-defeating skills once again.

Although there are certain points in this film where you feel like asking the person next to you to pass the sick bag, it is great fun and you can look forward to meeting all the well-loved characters from the first movie, and an appearance from the ROCK which can't be bad. Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz are excellent as are all the other actors and the action and fight scenes are amazing. Another good thing is that although there are various twists along the way you don't have to think too much so you can just sit back and enjoy some good old fashioned guns, swords and goody vs. baddy fights! You'll love it!!! P.S. If anyone else is as interested in films as I am then please e-mail me or contact me on msn messenger!! I look forward to speaking to you soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best entertainment ever! 18 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Format:DVD
After watching the mummy I was eager to watch the sequel and I was so glad that it came out so soon after the other. I love this film! Its non stop action totally drawing you into its world. No its not deadly serious, no its not deep and meaningful blah blah blah but what it is pure entertainment, total escapism and stunning to watch.
The special effects are amazing and there are too many stand out moments to pick a favourite but the pygmy mummies are definitely a highlight. It was great to see the bulk of the main cast back because the main reason I love these films is because of the wonderful characters. I hope Brendan Fraser and the stunning Rachel Weisz get the attention they deserve now.
If you like action adventure with a sense of humour then you'll love this. It reminded me of Indiana Jones films and that can't be a bad thing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it. 17 Dec 2008
Format:DVD
The Mummy. More of the same. I remember when Star Wars first came out, and many whinged at Empire Strikes Back saying that it couldn't stack up against the originality etc etc of Star Wars. Years later a lot admit they got it wrong and Empire is the best.

I'm not quite saying any of the sequels beat the first one, but they're all fun; even if the third jars a bit the first time round...

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful, witty and exciting. 10 Mar 2006

Enjoyable film, no boring parts. Suspenseful, witty and exciting. Fantastic cast.

I dare say that this one is better than the first! I own all three and this is my favourite.

It's quite scary but not too much so that it becomes unenjoyable. Just light pieces mixed in with humour and a great storyline.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Awesome! 7 Mar 2004
Format:DVD
This movie is brilliant, even better than the original. The actors are fantastic, it's funny, action packed & the visual effects are superb.

I'm maybe a little biased as I'm obsessed with Ancient Egypt anyway, but how can anyone not love this film? It has everything you should ever need for a couple of hours of top entertainment!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great! 23 Oct 2001
Format:VHS Tape
this film, although it was a sequel, i thought that it was much better than the first! my husband and i went to see this film at the cinema, and although we were a little diasappointed with the first film, we both thought that it had been money well spent. it would help, however, if you do have the first one to watch afterwards, because things from the first film are mentioned frequently in this film. although i have only given this film 4 stars and not the five that i think it deserves, it maybe because i am an egypt-fan anyway, and dont want to be too predudiced. anyway, for an evening's escapism, this is the film to watch!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Indiana Jones 5 26 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
This lates Brendan Fraser vehicle is not as bad as the media will ahve you believe. It's improbable, illogical and there is the obligitory annoying child, but it's a laugh. If you don't want to have to debate the film with your mates go and watch this one. The only debate likely to ensue is was it better than the first Indiana Jones rip-off (did i say that out loud?)Furthermore it co-stars(???) THE ROCK, reason enough to part with a few quid, well no, but the graphics of this film are very impresssive. The story follows Fraser's wife's (Weisez) in her quest to find her real identity, plagued as she is with notinons that she is the reincarnated daughter of the man weho was killed by the villan in 1 and 2, centuries previously. It's not a plot kind of film, but is splendid escapism.

4.0 out of 5 stars as good as the first
If you've seen/liked the first, then buy this. Just as good, maybe a little better with the action. And if you like this, buy the Scorpion King.
