My daughter enjoyed this book. When she reread a few weeks ago she commented on the fact that although the title character is a year older than her the book would be suitable for younger readers. This book is similar to Jacqueline Wilson's books however it is less depressing and more amusing. One thing my daughter found was that the title character 'Esme' whose mother is dead, is slightly annoying. The age range I think would be for girls 7-10. This is particularly suitable for girls who have read Gwyneth Ree's earlier books and are ready to move on to something more serious and girls who have read Jacqueline Wilson's book and are looking for a bit of variety but still similar.

The Mum Hunt is a good book although it took a while to get started, was boring in places and throughout the book I was wondering what had actually happened to Esmie's Mum. I knew that she had died, although I wasn't actually sure how. The story had twists and turns in all the right places. It was a good book, but perhaps Esmie's age attracted the wrong age group.

Me and my mum both loved reading this book together because Esmie is very cheeky and tries to get her father a new wife. The story is exciting, funny and sometimes emotional.
