This book was about a town that had been deserted for many years. In that town, there was a cat named the Mouse-Butcher. The Mouse Butcher had a friend called Giglamps. He was the Doctor and his shop was called the Chemist. One day, the Mouse -Butcher bumped into one of the cats from the big house. The problem was that there wasn't enough food to go round because a cat that may give you a shiver called Great Mog had gobbled it all up. So the Mouse Butcher started feeding the cats at the big house and in return, they gave him their hunting ground and food. At the end Great Mog and the Mouse-Butcher have a fight and the Mouse Butcher won.
The main character was the Mouse-Butcher because he was kind and generous.
I enjoyed the book because it had a kind and generous cat in it. And it had interesting bible bits in it and because it was imaginative and gripping. By Bethea aged 7

I originally heard this when someone lent their tapes to my son to listen to in the car. I gave them back with reluctance. This is a wonderful wonderful story - you totally forget they are cats and become involved in their story. The names are so clever too. I'm so glad to have my own copy and I listen to it quite often, I never get tired of hearing it. Wonderful for a car journey especially.

I had a book called The mouse butcher , which is funny and interesting even though i am three quarters or a bit less through the book.Tom Plug is the main character who is a cat which sets traps to fool mice and other animals so he can eat them for his meals. He gets other cats trapping him when he's out so that they can use him to get their food because they are not very good.He sets traps like putting food down the animal likes, pouncing out on it,putting fake food out and getting his friends to do the animals sound of communication . His favourite meal is mouse for starter ,mouse for main course and mouse for desert. He catches sparrows but he does not especially like them. There are bits which aren't very good like when he gets trapped by other cats and having to catch them there food. My favourite is when he makes up new traps each time and when other cats come up to him and say things like ''oh i really like you Tom'' ( because they think he's famous).

I would rate this book 4/5 because some is interesting and some is boring.

I have had this book for years now and i still read it at least once a year I just loved this book since the first time I read it. It is a kid book but I don't recommend it to young children because I remember first time I read the book I was so shocked when one of the character dies. But still it's a really good book and I strongly recommend it to anyone who likes cats *hint hint* happy ending!

The tale of a heroic cat who dared brave the monter of Hobb's Hole!
On the still air from the distant fields came a horrible mixture of a roar and a scream with a snarl mixed in, and even at that distance it was so loud that everyone knew one thing for certain. It was the noise of no ordinary creature!
Only Tom Plug, the butcher's fearless cat and a true hunter, dared brave the monster of Hobb's Hole in his lair - but some said it was a foolhardy mission that could cost him his life!
