If you are not into psychology I can understand why people have different opinions on this book. Personally I found this book extremely helpful. I found it very easy to read and enjoyed the statement quizzes at certain stages of the book. If you are struggling through certain aspects of your life, eg job, stress etc it won't change your life, but it may motivate you into helping you look at different ways of changing things. There are snippets of information that I found interesting, but it won't interest everyone (eg why people choose to go on reality t.v shows) This is a much better book than many self help books because it looks at the psychological side. It may not work for you, but give it at go, you have nothing to lose but everything to gain.

A no nonsense approach to the cognitive states required to find, keep and nuture your personal motivation. This books strength lies in its consistent use of the lastest psychological research to support Persauds recommendations. For those of you who have read 'Staying Sane' by the same author you'll find repetition of concepts again, which can become a little wearisome (and prevented me from given this book five stars) and you begin to believe that the author is using reitteration not to drum home a point but to fill page quotas! There are some fascinating concepts in this book - if you want to learn, and replicate, how successfull and driven individuals think and behave, then the tools are all here. If you are feeling demotivated this won't solve all your problems, but it's the tonic needed to get you back on track - it worked for me!

The high sales of self help literature shows a desire in people to improve and motivate themselves. Sadly much of this genre is filled with the same old trite. This books distinguishes itself by being based on solid research and therefore will work. My only criticism is that he often jumps from subject to subject without a clear progression. Its not a masterpiece of writing but if your after effective knowledge to improve your performance and do the same for your organisation. You will be pleased.

Misleading and somewhat trite
If you are thinking of buying this book, go for the cheapest copy you can find - a second-hand one for 1p, for example. That way you won't feel you've wasted your money. Read more

My Favourite Book
I own many books, and of all my books this one is my favourite. It is not a cheesy self-help book, with lots of statements not backed up with research. Read more

Simply the best book on how life works I have ever read!

Not what you might expect albeit positively
The front cover is somewhat deceptive by its rather grand statement "How to get what you want from life". Read more

Flabby, irrelevant, over-hyped self-indulgence fest
This is such a smug, self-satisfied book. I was very mistaken in thinking that this would help me improve my motivation. Read more

Best of its kind out there
A somewhat surprising book. I expected the usual lightweight daytime TV flannel - just be yourself/set goals/you can accomplish anything you set your mind to, and so on. Read more
