5.0 out of 5 stars great for young readers 16 Mar 2013
we've just discovered the slow dog/fast fox series at the library - the stories have a quirky humour that really appeals to my four year old, and the text is carefully constructed to keep the vocabulary simple enough for beginner readers to be able to tackle on their own, so she's thrilled that she can read them herself, and there's a rhythm and sense of the dramatic to the prose that bears the inevitable repetition. Am buying a copy as a present on the basis of my daughter's enjoyment of the library copy!

2.0 out of 5 stars This book is a mystery to me 14 Nov 2003

I find this book illogical, which isn't necessarily a bad thing for a children's book. However, I find it lacks the magical imagination and/or moral substance that would give it license for the missing pieces it contains in the narrative and the illustrations. It's advertised on the back cover as being "fresh and funny" and a "delight (to) young readers and adults alike", but I certainly wouldn't recommend it for a child under five as the little "humour" it does contain would go over their heads.

My grandchildren love this silly series (not worrying that they also eat chicken), Too bad it is out of print.
