I remember dancing to these wonderful tracks decades ago, but now that I'm less wiggly I can now LISTEN to how remarkably Eric Burdon sings and captures the sheer GUTS of the rock n Roll era - which unfortunately gave way to the robotic DISCO beat for unfortunate mechanical teenage robots. Even more astonishing is the fantastic playing and arranging by an unnamed PIANIST. The whole disc far surpasses my previous favourite FATS DOMINO.

The Most of The Animals......Ok, So Having Been Born Just 10 Miles North Of Newcastle, And Spending The First 16 Years Of My Life In Around There You Could Say I'm Just A Little Bias.....I Had This On Cassette Around 25 Years Ago.....And Played It To Death Then..........This Compilation Just Does It For Me.........Of Course It Has The Evergreen Classics " House Of The Rising Sun", " We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" & " Roadrunner"...But It's The Lesser Tracks That Bring a Lump To My Throat. Eric Burdon's Vocal On " For Miss Caulker" Reminds Me Of The Steep Terraced Housing That Had The View Of The Disused Industry On The Banks Of The River Tyne......" Bring It On Home To Me" Sets My Mind Back To My Youth And Getting Up To All Sorts In The City Centre With My Mates Many Years Ago................Yeah............It Still Moves Me And My Emotions That Much!!!!!!...Isn't That What Music Is Meant To Do????

Pleasant yet with a dab of punk/ rock if one listens carefully. (In fact, I find the Fuzztones have taken inspiration from a couple of tunes).

Real nostalgia...
When the Animals first became popular I enjoyed their music and now after many years have gone by it brings back happy memories of what then seemed to be carefree days.

Hard work.
The sound was hard work. Listening to the whole cd was a struggle. I assume this is down to the poor recording back then. Read more
