Fantastic! This is a must read for anyone interested in British or Indian history. From the start one is right there with the author, seeing and feeling British India at its apogee from a point of view that is both intensely personal and insightful. It is a priviledge to read as M.M.Kaye effortlessly brings her childhood (with all its joys and disappointments)to the page. At times comic and touching, this was a pleasure from start to finish.

Stunning 1 July 2008
Format:Paperback
Excellent, riveting from start to finish. The first of the trilogy documenting the life of M. M. Kaye until she married. A fascinating look into recent social history from the point of view of a Brit in India and what Indians thought of Brits. The other two books cover China and India and a brief visit to Japan, just as interesting.
Sadly she died before taking up the story of life after marriage and children.
