Product Description

Classic romance based on the novel by Mary Stewart. Nikky Ferris (Mills) is spending time in Crete at a small inn called The Moon-Spinners with her Aunt Frances (Joan Greenwood). One day Nikky discovers a handsome young man, Mark Camford (Peter McEnery), wounded in an empty church nearby. It turns out that Mark was once a London bank messenger, but he lost his job after a major jewel robbery. Tagged as a suspect, Mark has made his way to the inn to gather evidence against the inn's owner, Stratos (Eli Wallach), who Mark thinks is the real jewel thief. Nikky and Mark fall in love and decide to capture Stratos together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful little Movie 1 Aug 2010
Format:DVD
The Moonspinners was a movie which I saw several times (no I'm not crazy) It just happened to be playing in the place where I worked as a page - boy in the cinema, so after work, usually 4pm. I would saunter (free) into the cinema and watched the movie.

I agree with most of the reviews that the Greek scenery was more eye catching than the plot of the movie. But back in those days we were not so demanding and when Disney got their hands on the story and its main female lead (Hayley) they felt they were on to a good thing especially after the success of 'In Search Of The Castaways'. The movie did have some notable talent, Hayley Mills, Joan Greenwood, Irene Papas,Pola Negri, the ever talented Eli Wallach and Peter McEnery. All of this was never going to make an oscar winning movie.
What the heck! I enjoyed and it and was intrumental in urging me to go to Greece on holiday. As far as I know The Moonspinners was the first Mills and Boon book to be taken up by a major studio, CHECK IT OUT ! And finally the movie is also remembered for Hayley's first grown - up screen kiss from Peter McEnery, and what guy wouldn't want to kiss Hayley Mills.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Moon-Spinners 8 Jun 2010
By Woody
Format:DVD
This is good, family viewing set in a lovely area of Crete (Elounda) that has expanded out of all recognition since the film was shot there in 1964.
It features a wronged bank official (Peter McEnery), seeking to clear his name by implicating the person whom he perceives to be the thief (Eli Wallach) of a bank client's jewels in London.
Arriving at the same small hotel in the Village, run by the Sister (Irene Papas) of the thief, is an Aunt (Joan Greenwood) and her Niece (Hayley Mills), the former recording local folk songs in Greece for the BBC.
There are many adventures experienced along the way by the former banker and the young tourist including a shooting, imprisonment, pursuit, treachery and even a little romance until the final, exciting conclusion on board the yacht of an eccentric millionairess when the villian gets his just deserts.
The acting is good and the Cretan scenery stunning and the viewer is left on the edge of their seat until the final monents.

4.0 out of 5 stars a nice one for the afternoons 28 Sep 2010
By Post Scriptum VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
This is a nice, inoffensive, middling Disney adventure story, with decent characters and nice scenery, and you can lose yourself in the story fairly easily. And there's a fine little cameo from John Le Mesurier as well!
