I've been a fan of Montignac for several years but never read books properly still losing weight where all other diets had failed (and I've tried them all!).
I've read this book again, thoroughly and properly and adhered to all his recommendations. It really does work! What's more is that you feel healthier and mentally calmer (you're not deprived or starving hungry). I love his common-sense approach and his love for food. You feel that you've discovered what was our innate knowledge anyway - that good, unprocessed food is to be enjoyed and savoured and that the commercially based junk foods that we eat - refined and full of bad fats are really harming our metabolisms and causing an epidemic of hyperinsulism/obesity.
I recommend that you really study hard the principles of hypoglycaemic and hyperinsulism that he speaks about and the factors that bring about obesity and symptons of hypoglycaemia which is food cravings, lethargy, depression and weight-gain. Then you understand your bodie's response.
I've found with GI books that there are now a glut of them aroung giving false information by authors who don't seem to care that they've just gone on the GI bandwagon and misleading people.
You will find with Montignac that his approach is balanced, scientific and such a breath of freshair! You begin to eat again well and properly maybe for the first time ever and still lose weight without any fancy gimmicry.
My only critism is that his recipes are not that useful to us English. Being french, living in a different culture with an emphasis on long, 3 course lunches Montignac communicates his passion for lovely soups, main courses and desserts/cheeses but not always practical for working Mums! Nonetheless, they are easy to adapt and by really studying his principles you can create anglo versions.
