Financial thriller for the 21st century Tom is a financial trader. When his Estonian wife, Tatyana, goes missing with no warning, he investigates, only to find himself drawn into the biggest financial story of the millennium. With the help of Sarah, a financial analyst whose father was ruined by the all-powerful Leopard Fund, he chases - and is chased - across Europe to discover the secrets behind Swiss accounts in his wife's name, containing hundreds of millions of dollars. The answers to this riddle lie in the past, but Tom and Sarah's present and future depend upon their success in thinking one jump ahead of the world's keenest financial and criminal minds.

I have worked in business, and also travelled in Eastern Europe and I was impressed by the way James Harland bought some real authority and knowledge to this first-rate new thriller. The story of the wife that vanishes, and the hunt to find out who she really is, had me gripped from the start, and I read the book in little more than a couple of sittings. The writing is first-rate, the characters convincing and the dialogue rattles along. I'll certainly be looking out for James Harland's next book.

This is undoubtably the best new thiller I have read in years. Harland takes a very topical subject - a crash in the financial markets - and weaves around it a wonderfully exciting and moving story. Great characters and great writing. We have been looking for the new John le Carre for a long time, and in James Harland I think we might have found him.

I am not a thriller person normally, but I was given a copy for a holiday read. Well, could I put the book down? No, was the answer. The Month of the Leopard is very well written, intense, fast and very compelling. A great read
