Product Description

Writing poems and keeping journal since 1991, Jill Scott now shares her personal poetry collection in The Moments, the Minutes, the Hours. Praised for her earthy, honestly erotic, soulful and very real lyrics, Jill Scott explores all the flavors of life, love, and self. Of her music, Jill offers: "It's music. It's experiences. It's vulnerability. It's honesty. It's being a woman---an African American woman. Being a daughter, a sister, a grandchild and a Godmother. It's life. It's deeper than what I know. It's bigger than what I can see. I guess it's a dive into the human spirit." And the same will come forth in this never- before-seen collection of her poetry.

This book is an absolute gem. Now i bought it simply because im an incredibly dedicated fan of everything Jill Scott and i, admittedly, didnt expect what i found. It's cliche to claim that is was fantastic and i could put it down and consequently read it cover to cover but it's also, essentially, the truth. I'm not usually one to get drawn into things emotionally but Scott always seems to have that effect and this book is filled with beautiful poetry that captures the imagination and forces the reader to want more. It's neither pretentious nor "arty" and achieves its goal. To take us on a journey with Scott, a journey which even a non-jill fan,as i like to call them, would appreciate. Her poetry is strong and pure. It comes from her heart and manages to touch the readers heart. And if it's just some good entertainment you want, it's equally useful.

This is a great collection of Jill Scotts poetry, as soulful and sexy as her music. Simply great to read and immerse yourself in. If you love her music, you'll love her poetry, it's as easy as that.

Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Like her music, the poetry of the incomparable Ms Scott is lyrical, beautifully paced, and clearly comes from within her soul.

I am a huge fan of Jill Scott's music, and to come across this book, well, i could hardly wait for it to arrive. Anyone who is familiar with jill's music will not be disappointed with the content and style of this poetry collection.

I absolutely adore the talents of Jill Scott. I love her passion in her art, her singing voice with her tailor made songs and I love to hear her speak when she recites poetry on the odd occasion that I will get to hear it. However, this book did not meet my high expectations as I had anticipated. The book is a good read and would be much appreciated by fans and other poetry lovers but it did not 'wow' me. Some topics where disturbingly repetitive and I expected more range. It is worth a read but I prefer to listen to her self-written songs as opposed to reading her poetry. Or to just watch her perform her poems would be more satisfactory I suppose.
