Mostly for the European Market 15 Jun. 2007
By John A Lee III - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is not a bad book for those interested in rocketry but most Americans would be better served by G. Harry Stine's Book. This one is written from a British perspective for modelers in Britain and Europe. It does a fair job of teaching the basics including some elementary theory but the rules, products and references are mostly foreign to the US market.

Though some might find it worthwhile, most should pass it up for a more useable book.
Good intro reference for international model rocketry. 30 Nov. 2009

I first read about Stuart Lodge in Sport Rocketry magazine and in Apogee rocketry newsletters. What I didn't know was his efforts in founding the British Model Flying Association or BMFA, what it took to transport Model Rocketry to the UK and convince officials how safe it is. He acknowledges on page one that G. Harry Stine wrote the seminal text called The Model Rocketry Handbook in 1965 which should be read by all model rocketeers. Think of Stuart Lodges book as a compact extension of the original handbook, with a historical and international view for the 21st century.

Organized in a functional layout with numerous photographs new to myself. As a NAR member I'm interested in contest rocketry and learning about Federation Aeronautique Internationale or FAI style competition. This book shines in the description of the various FAI events and construction techniques of these specific models. Populated with many line drawings especially in the chapter on gliders that provide useful insight on the workings of these models.

This is not a complex text book so it would be especially handy for younger persons just entering the hobby. A scout who is taking Space Exploration Merit Badge or a 4-H rocket club come to mind. I recommend it when building your personal, club, or section model rocket library.

Keep paying forward!
Pretty average. 4 Mar. 2013

The problem for this book is that it is in the same price range as other model rocketry books, but can't compete. Although it does lean towards the European market, it still had useful information for all rocketeers. It is physically a very small book, and is dwarfed beside its colleagues.

I recommend you grab the "Handbook of Model Rocketry, 7th Edition" for the same price. I only got this book to complete my collection of rocketry books; I would have been displeased if I'd paid full price for this tiny little tome.
