The sense of foreboding permeates this book right to the last page, but so does the desire that it will eventually become more hopeful. The subject matter is dark, despite the artist's desire to always paint with Titanium white. What kept me reading was the fact that the story constantly encompasses the thoughts of the artist, as if you are - unfortunately on his journey with him - as it gets worse and worse. If you decide to read this book, then stick with it to the end - you will have difficulty forgetting the outcome. Having stuck with it I can barely look at the cover now in the same way. Well done Don Bartlett for crossing cultures on our behalf.
