Product Description

Synopsis

The Painter Peter Wihl - a celebrated success early in his career - is about to turn fifty. The prospect is stifling his creativity and jeopardising his preparations for a major new exhibition intended to revive his reputation. In a cruel twist of fate, his concerns about his forthcoming birthday are rendered meaningless when he discovers that he has an incurable eye condition and will be completely blind within six months. What is a painter without his eyes? A chance encounter with an old classmate leads a vulnerable Peter into a sinister world which will haunt him for as long as he lives. The novel poses the question: How far is the artist willing to go in pursuit of his art?

Rather odd 14 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback
I did not enjoy reading this book but, rather surprisingly I persevered to the very end!

Since finishing the book, it has been on my mind a lot. It is a multi layered book which raises

many issues and disturbing thoughts. Certainly not light reading!

The Artist 8 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback
The sense of foreboding permeates this book right to the last page, but so does the desire that it will eventually become more hopeful. The subject matter is dark, despite the artist's desire to always paint with Titanium white. What kept me reading was the fact that the story constantly encompasses the thoughts of the artist, as if you are - unfortunately on his journey with him - as it gets worse and worse. If you decide to read this book, then stick with it to the end - you will have difficulty forgetting the outcome. Having stuck with it I can barely look at the cover now in the same way. Well done Don Bartlett for crossing cultures on our behalf.
