5-Stars! "It was original and intriguing and I commend Nancy Thompson for such an imaginative, complex novel." ~Smitten's Book Blog

All Tyler Karras wants is to enjoy life with his expectant bride. What he gets instead is a graveside seat at her funeral. With the woman who killed her uncharged and still free, all Ty wants now is revenge.

His brother, Nick, has dangerous connections and suggests a sadistic plan:  grab the woman responsible and hand her over to his associates--sex-traffickers in San Francisco's Russian Mafia. They offer Ty more than he dreamed possible. In exchange for the woman, they'll finally let his brother leave the business for good--with his debt wiped clean and his heart still beating.

There's just one problem:  Ty kidnaps the wrong woman.

Now he must protect Hannah Maguire from the very enemy he's unleashed, but the Russians are holding Nick as leverage to force Ty to complete the deal. Caught in a no-win situation, Ty must find a way to save himself, his brother, and the woman, but with the Russian Mafia, even two out of three makes for very long odds.

"A deliciously slow burn that builds to a ferocious crescendo, Nancy S. Thompson's THE MISTAKEN kept me riveted until the very last page." ~Jennifer Hillier, author of CREEP and FREAK

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced, intense, high energy 21 Jan 2013
By smitten
Format:Kindle Edition
For fans of `Captive in the Dark', the `Consequences' series and other Action Romance novels... move over bad boys, there's a new kidnapper on the block. But he isn't a bad boy... not really. He's a tormented, lonely, lost man on a path of vengeance, driven by guilt and sorrow.

"The lyrics,
`Tell me would you kill to save a life...would you kill to prove you're right?'
They've often made me wonder, what would make a good man do something...you know, really awful, like kill or whatever. And well, now...I guess I have my answer don't I?"

This is a fast paced, intense, high energy story about guilt, all consuming grief and learning how to forgive. It's harrowing and unpredictable. It had me in tears and it had me on the edge of seat. I read until 3.20am last night, when I finally finished, putting it down only to end up dreaming about the characters and the intricate plot. The twists and turns are unthinkable and totally gripping.

"We could probably do it, figure out a plausible way to really get back her, to completely ruin her life. How hard could it be?"

Well, isn't that just the million dollar question. If only they'd known how hard it could be!

"He needs to learn there are consequences to his poor decisions."
"And if the consequence is death, Jillian? What lesson is there to learn then?"

This is something Tyler Karras is about to find out in every way imaginable.

Whilst The Mistaken does involve a love story, it is so much more than that. It's gritty action drama, first and foremost, with a love story thrown in on the side to add to the intensity (if that's even possible).

"If I can help make you whole again, then maybe I can be, too. And I need that, Ty.

5.0 out of 5 stars A story full of tension 7 May 2013
By SJ
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well, wow, what a rollercoaster of a read. I didn't know what was going to happen next through nearly all of the book. I have to say I know the author, and at one point, while reading The Mistaken, I sent Nancy a message saying I can't believe you did that, I was so caught out by a plot twist I had not seen coming at all. Amazing. Very cleverly written, packed with action, and charged with tension, but not too complex to follow, it just keeps you engrossed in the story wondering what shock is around the corner, because after the first massive plot twist, you think, this could go anywhere now, what `s coming next. I really enjoyed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning debut thriller 25 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A stunning debut novel rich in characterisation and twists and turns, Nancy S. Thompson has really created something special here. She examines the consequences of a man who considers himself good being driven mad by grief and revenge. The events in Tyler Karras' life following his wife's death are like a whirlpool leading him down a path of insane destruction; it might seem over the top in the hands of a lesser author, but Thompson does such a good job you wouldn't believe it was her first book.

The multiple first person narrative allows us to get up close and personal with the characters' emotions and reactions at each step of the way. Thompson lands them in impossibly dangerous situations, leading you to forge on to discover just how they will get out of them. From a relatively slow start, Thompson builds the momentum until it's impossible to put the book down. If you want gripping action sequences and nailbiting twists, the novel delivers in spades, but it also offers a thoughtful look at what someone can do when they're driven over the edge, and the nature of redemption.

A decent, hard-working man turns to the bottle and seeks violent vengeance in the aftermath of two tragic accidents. "Somewhere down deep inside me lurked a monster, an abomination, a bitter man so broken and lost that vengeance seemed the best course, the only road left to follow."

This was a thought running through the mind of Tyler Karras, the hero of The Mistaken, the fiction debut of Nancy S. Thompson. Tyler is living the American dream in San Francisco, when his brother joins ranks with the local Russian mafia. Tyler tries to intervene on his brother's behalf, but instead only becomes himself a target for their wrath.

The circumstances of the plot may be a little far-fetched, but the character transformations are totally believable. We feel for Tyler in his grief and urge him on as he seeks revenge against those who have brought such havoc to his life. We understand when Hannah, who is literally kidnapped before our eyes when we first meet her, eventually empathizes with her captor and envisions a life together with him.

We need to be reassured that Tyler and Hannah will escape certain death.

The best time to read The Mistaken is when you have a whole day, or an entire night, ahead of you, because you'll find it that difficult to put down the book.
