3.0 out of 5 stars Its a bit short 26 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
If you are expecting a novel, think again. Its a short story, 26 pages long and the book itself I nearly mistook for an advertising pamphlet.
Its a Stainless Steel Rat story and is ok but not seeing any CAPITAL LETTERS anywhere in the story required extra comprehension on my part. I'm not used to bad copy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Classic Stainless Steel Rat... but.... 30 Oct 2010

Format:Kindle Edition
The story is excellent.

But the formatting of this Kindle version is awful. And alas this spoils it. At least for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story, overpriced book 13 April 2011
By SF lover - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a wonderful story about 'Slippery' Jim DiGriz, later to be known as The Stainless Steel Rat. We first see DiGriz and his two companions in this book when he beats a Casino Planet to win money so they can purchase weaponry to defend themselves against their home planet, the planet Pyrrus. This story is a wonderful short story showing how these three people work together but if you have a Kindle you would be better off spending slightly more and getting much more in the book "The Misplaced Battleship and Other Works by Harry Harrison"

5.0 out of 5 stars Just the beginning of a wonderful set of Stainless Steel Rat stories! 24 Jun 2012
By SGL - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
First this story is in the public domain, which means there is no copyright. Many of these non-copyrighted stories where written for the SciFi pulps of the 50's like Astounding(no longer in existence ), they were short and intended to be serialized. This story gave rise to the satirical and humorous Stainless Steel Rat series beginning in 1961. It is a great story and well written , it does have that incomplete feel of an intended serial but it is still a good story and a fun read. Fortunately if you enjoy it there are several complete books that continue the story.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shockingly misleading 23 Feb 2010
By Toad - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Why on earth has this been published? It's a couple of chapters from Harry Harrison's original "The Stainless Steel Rat" book (with the remainder of the book currently unavailable in digital form). I bought it as I recognized the text, thinking it might be The Stainless Steel Rat under another name. It is not. It doesn't even stand alone as a story.

The Stainless Steel Rat book would have rated 5 stars from me - a humorous SF classic. Being asked to pay for this excerpt? Outrageous!

Be warned. Save your money, wait for the whole book.
