Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Barbra Streisand's self-absorbed remake of a 1958 French film stars Jeff Bridges as a college professor tired of sexual politics. He makes a deal with a dowdy colleague (Streisand) that they provide companionship for one another, with no thought of getting into bed. She agrees but soon becomes frustrated, the agreement only reinforcing her unfulfilled desire to have a complete relationship with a man. Mimi Rogers is on hand as Babs's striking sister, and Lauren Bacall received an Oscar nomination for her role as the heroine's selfish mother. The Mirror Has Two Faces is OK, but it becomes an irritating vanity piece for Streisand (who directed as well as stars). Her character constantly gazes upon her own reflection and is told at least a dozen times, one way or another, just how attractive she is. One wants to shout out, we get it already--you're pretty! --Tom Keogh

Fantastic! 19 May 2003
By A Customer
Format:DVD
The Mirror has two faces is an enjoyable romantic comedy with a twist, it's superb writting and directing makes it a must for all romantics.
It tells the story school teacher (Streisand)who falls for (Bridges).
Compared to many other romantic movies i would say this is in the top ten, it is not your teen flick we are so used to being shown it's truley original. The picture lives upto it's title and you can see why the picture is called the mirror has two faces.
Aside from being a romantic comedy it also has a moral to it, that not all beauty is on the outside, you have to look within to find true love, which is an important message especially in todays society.
Both actors bloom in this movie and Streisand's directing skills are surprisingly expert.
Definatly one to watch!

Great movie!! 23 May 2006
Format:DVD
It has you laughing and crying! It is funny throughout the movie, with some great one-liners! It's a bit girly, but us girls' need something sweet and romantic to cheer us up every no and then, and this is the movie for that!

Streisand directs, produces and stars in this lovly film. She also provides the theme song, dueted with Bryan Adams. This is a wonderful film that will leave you feeling happy and warm. The end reall complete's the film for me.

Lovely Film 31 Mar 2008
Format:DVD
This is a wonderful film. It has an irresistible plot of two attractive professors (he's got the looks, she's got the witty personality) trying to conduct a platonic marriage having found a genuine liking and affection for one another. Jeff Bridges is perfectly cast as the helplessly sexy, rumpled academic who after being unlucky in lust seeks a passionless and thus more 'solid' marriage. Barbara Streisand is lovely as a brilliant, frumpy, hopeless romantic. Between his helpless sexiness and her hopeless romantic-ness you know you are set for an emotional equivalent of a 'rags-to-riches' rollercoaster, all delivered with plenty of laughs as well as insightful (even tearful) moments.

The supporting cast, notably George Segal and Lauren Becall is generous in making the leads look even better whilst providing great comedy and solid emotional backdrops to the story as well.

The climax provides an emotional crescendo (dramatically as well as musically!). If you like rom-coms with a bit of thought thrown in then treat yourself, buy this film.
