5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent results. 6 Aug 2011
Format:Paperback
I have used patterns and ideas from this book to make several items including blouses from Joanna's print dress pattern and trousers from Archie's suit. The clothes are made to measure for the editor's own hand made 12th scale dolls, but I have had no difficulty adjusting them to fit a Heidi Ott lady. It was just a matter of lengthening them a smidgen - cut the originals out in tissue paper, without hems and then "try" them on your doll to see if there are any obvious differences.
The garments are 20th Century, but with such a good range of options; male/female, young/old that they can easily be addapted. Best of all, they are designed to be put on and taken off and give the illusion of realism. I have sewn mine by hand and look forward to trying them on my sewing machine.
The book is a delight to read even if you never make anything. ( I would love to see more of Catriona Hall's work, her dolls have such great character.)It contains good clear patterns for sewing clothes, household linens, shoes, hats and knitted garments and good advice for excellent results.
Just the very best book of this kind that I have ever come across!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book 27 April 2005
By Mary loves Murder - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is an excellent book, full of good ideas and common sense. The patterns and instructions are crystal clear. I enjoyed reading it and removable clothing for 1/12 scale dolls no longer looks impossible! The author's own exquisite work is illustrated, but the techniques are usable by anyone with just modest sewing skills. This is a real find!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Miniature Costumier 10 Feb 2007
By Larita F. Wilson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Sewing is not my strong point. But this book was a really big help! It is very discriptive and full of helpful hints. A beginner should feel quite at ease in doing Catriona's first project. My first project came out looking good. And that's saying a lot! I can't wait to do all the projects in this book. I highly recommend The Miniature Costumier!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for mini crafters 14 Feb 2009
By Dawn Green - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I was really looking forward to getting this book and was not disappointed. I really liked reading through this book and viewing the pictures. The photography is well done and almost all of the items are shown modeled on actual dollhouse dolls. The instructions are easy to follow, I've made two items, but I'm not totally sure how easy they would be to follow if I didn't already have sewing experience. That said, I really do think that this is a great, great book for anyone who wants to sew "removable" clothing for their miniature dolls. It could be improved by having more boy patterns and by having a spiral binding so that the book could stay open while you're using it. I'm actually taking mine to a copier to have the spine removed and a spiral binding put on because I'm definitely planning on making more items from this book.

This is a great book for a miniaturist to use for current day patterns. I was able to trace some of them and then create my own designs.

A lot of great ideas. I can't wait to start a project. Doesn't look too difficult. This will be my first attempt at sewing miniature clothes.
