Great Pocket Guide. 21 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I do know Paris a little (I was actually born there), so might be argued less likely to validate a rubbish guide to the city.

This handy (pocket sized) guide lives up to the "Rough Guide" reputation in that it contains all of the best places to visit, in addition to many places not found in more traditional guides. The quirky & informative text also makes for easy reading (much better for planning your trip).

It does include street & Metro maps (albeit on seperate pages which confuses a little), although I would recommend buying the pop-out pocket map also included elsewhere in my reviews.

There are restaurants listed in this guide, although please follow your nose when choosing any French restaurant. Simply check a few street menu boards out for price & interest, but most of all check out the number of clientelle & how engrossed they are in their meal.
Some of the restaurants are listed in this guide mainly due to their ambience & atmosphere (and there is a lot to be said for experiencing just that), although in my experience when restaurants appear in guides the quality always drops & the prices rise accordingly! Just a tip...

Conclusion: A great little pocket guide.

By Victor HALL OF FAME TOP 10 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
The guide is packed with useful, well researched and well written info. Detailing attractions, hotels, eateries and things t do for all budgets it can help you make the most of your stay. It also contains notes on language, customs, getting around, and the history of the city, all of which were either interesting or invaluable information. It is not without its flaws however. The organisation of the book can make it a little difficult to find what you are looking for and, the maps are tiny and all at the back of the book, meaning much flicking back and forth. A decent guide book, but as with the other editions, needs better maps.

The guide was exactly what I was looking for. Pocket size but packed with the information I want. I like the 13 Highlights at the beginning. I've used Rough Guides for many years all over the world and they have taken us to some great places to visit and eat.
