Product Description

Product Description

Inspired by Eastern meditative practices, mindfulness is a simple yet powerful approach to treat depression, anxiety, relationship issues and many other common problems.

Featuring practical, illustrated step-by-step exercises to help you fully understand and adopt the mindfulness approach, and master key techniques such as breathing, relaxation, body scanning and concentration building. As you adopt these approaches, you can completely engage in the present moment, and in the process overcome negative thoughts and feelings. It also includes chapters on using mindfulness to self-treat such specific problems as depression, stress and anxiety, and relationship issues.

Written by a team of practising therapists led by Sarah Silverton, The Mindfulness Breakthrough truly is a breakthrough for self-treatment: a friendly, engaging and most of all practical guide; and one which, like a trusted therapist, leads you through your problems and questions, anticipating your needs with kindness and compassion.

Mindfulness is recommended by doctors and psychologists as a gentle, practical and highly effective treatment option, and in 2010 the UK’s National Institute for Clinical Excellence recommended mindfulness as the treatment of choice for recurrent depressive illness.

About the Author

Sarah Silverton is a meditation teacher working with the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice. She was trained by Professor Mark Williams of Oxford University, and by the Center for Mindfulness in Massachusetts, established by Jon Kabat-Zinn. A trained occupational therapist and counselor, she has 25 years' experience of working with people with mental health issues and physical disabilities, including chronic fatigue.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mindfulness Breakthrough 27 May 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is an excellent book. Often books of this nature can be dry and soul-less, but this is just the opposite. It covers all areas of mindfulness and is an excellent beginners handbook. I found it very well designed and easily readable too. Well done to the Author(s).

4.0 out of 5 stars Very clear and readable introduction 4 Aug 2013
By C S
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I saw this book advertised as Silverton and Kabat-Zinn and to be honest, it was the 'big name' that attracted me to the book. I was disappointed at first to find that his contribution was only a foreword. However, I did not at all regret reading the book. Silverton writes in clear and accessible style. She comes across as passionately humanistic without being patronising and her stories, exercises and examples are very useful. I recommend the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars not so much anxiety help 26 Oct 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book to help with my anxiety. I have other mindfulness books and the way this book was marketed I thought it would be specific for anxiety and depression but unfortunately it wasn't. Just a few pages on anxiety which had nothing new in it or meditations specific to the condition. Its a pretty colourful book but didn't give me much help. I preferred other books such a finding peace in a frantic world. Not so colourful but lots of information although not anxiety specific.
