As a mature student, whose accolades on leaving school was being a Good Truant and an ability to stowaway on River Mersey Ferries, I wish Tony Buzan had written his book during my schooldays. It might have stopped teachers complaining about my doodelling on my exercise books and I MIGHT have just learnt something.

Mind Mapping is a fabulous concept. I had read "Use Your Head" some years ago but the Mind Map Book is something else. It lays down a system which, if used properly, is a Godsend to anyone who is studying.

I've used the system during last semister and revision was more easier task than usual. I had taken ALL MY NOTES in the form of Mind Maps. That meant it was relatively easy to revise. In this book Tony collaborates with his book and Note-Making as well as Note-Taking is explored.

The book is written in an "easy to read" fashion. His use of "nature's architecture" is extremely interesting.

An example in the book is the Boeing Aircraft Corporation who used a 27 foot long mind map, to explain complex Avionics and saved about £10 million. That is itself a good advert for Mind Maps.

I am now trying to get my colleagues at work to use the same methods.

You'd give me fifteen quid if I could get you through that exam, wouldn't you? Well give Amazon that MONEY NOW and having bought Tony's book and followed his principles, that exam will be that much easy!

Positive thought, positive deed POSITIVE ACTION!

This is a good first step, basic introduction, very easy entry into the technique of mindmapping. The book is accessible, lots of illustrations demonstrating branching and radial patterns in nature, and pictures of other peoples mind-maps. The text is not too wordy, but tends to the repetitive, you can skim a lot of the chapters, would have liked to see more emphasis on lecture note taking. The most important thing is to do the exercises, and apply the techniques on the job. I now use it every day, particularly for lectures but also for work related planning tasks, although I haven't made the connection between mindmapping and software design using the UML yet.

since the first review was obviously written by someone who benefits from the sales of this book, i take one star off my rating of it to compensate.

mind mapping is most likely a well-structured and effective way of remembering and taking notes, however i'm sure it would be possible to write a better book about it than mr buzan has done. it's a little to "kindergardenish", and mr buzan tries to resell his idea of how brilliant mind mapping is on each and every page of the book. simply too many exclamation marks everywhere!

so, if you're not scared away by the infantile way of writing, go ahead and learn mind-mapping and benefit from it.
