I bought this book for my stepfather, and by all reports it is a good book. The book is now out of print, and up to £80 if bought "new". This was secondhand, but did not have a mark on it and was a fraction of the cost. Thank you to the vendor for providing it in quick time. Just a shame they did not do international postage as it had to go to Australia.
This is one of the best books I ever bought and I highly recommend it. The author stays true to his promise - it's all about the military campaigns and battles and just enough about the politics to give a great overview of the wars. I enjoyed reading this book from start to end.
I would have liked to see a little more family trees and charts, showing who's who (the names and titles can become very confusing, especially if you're not very familiar with the British history), but in this case google helped me quite a bit. Anyway this was not a good enough reason to take away a star from the review.

i bought this book knowing nothing about this period of english history and was keen to find out. After reading this book, the wars of the roses have become my favourite topic largely because the book is so well written, each battle well documented and written grammar so easy to understand. This book is a fabulous introduction for anyone wanting to know about this epic and brutal conflict between the lancastrians and yorkists. The Kingmaker ruled!
