A Mighty Sound... 18 Jun 2009
By C. FULLER TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
This is an excellent CD covering the period 1929 to 1956 with good sound quality throughout and featuring so many different performers and musical styles. With a generous running time of approx 77 minutes and well written liner notes from Guy W Rowland this is sure to please collectors. The titles include film and theatre musical favourites along with some light classical and novelty numbers of the time. The popularity of the organ is just as much today as back in its heyday with many modern day recordings and the highly successful Radio 2 show "The Organist Entertains". A great addition to the Bygone Days catalogue.

This reissue spans the period 1929 to 1956, which represented the golden age of the Wurlitzer. As can be seen, its 25 tracks present eighteen different organists playing a variety of models at different cinemas, ballrooms and theatres. Many of the tunes are still well-known, and appropriately some owe their origins to the stage or the silver screen. Guy W. Rowland's liner note provides background to each of the soloists, and all in all, this is a delectable collectors' item.
