Book Description

1 Dec 1999
A time to fear....

Grace Hart seemed to have it all: a bright, beautiful daughter, a successful career as a judge, and a lovely home in an Ohio suburb. But beneath the placid veneer, darker truths lie waiting. Her fifteen-year-old, Jessica, is teetering on the cusp of drugs and delinquency. And someone is stalking the troubled teenager. Someone who has already violated their home and stolen their peace of mind.

A time to love....

Now the police are involved. Grace is relieved--and worried. Is Jessica in danger from a drug dealer who wants to silence her? Detective Tony Marino is on the case. He's too close for comfort, asking disturbing questions, probing into her long-buried past, igniting feelings Grace has tried to suppress. In Tony's strong arms, Grace finds comfort, protection--passion--as he tries to shield them from the evil lurking just beyond their door....

4.0 out of 5 stars One of her best 3 April 2002
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I've read all of Karen Robards and this is one of the best. If you want to know what makes Karen Robards one of the mos popular writers of romantic fiction around, read this book. If runs like a fast paced movie and had a really cool hero with a great cop name.

Tony Marino is the investgating officer in a narcotics team who finds himself attracted to the mother of a teenage girl who got herself mixed up with the wrong crowd. What complicates the matter is the teenager's mother happens to be a Judge - Judge grace. Grace fiercly protective of her daughter and her independence, finds she has met her match in Tony, who absoluetly refuses to be intimidated by her cold authority or defensive distance. Forced to depend on each other to protect Jessica, Tony and Judge Grace soon realise as the threat inceases, that their attraction is just as compelling as the forces that threaten them all .

Good plot, and a fair amount of tension keeps this book interesting but above all, I just loved Tony! Pure, hot, tough as nails with a soft center, Tony was one HOT italian tomato! Ms Robards took the time to introduce us to his typically Italian family, and we spent a fair amout of time seeing what made him tick. Althought the ending was a tad silly, all is forgiven when Robards delivers with a sizzling sex, high tension and endearing characters.

This book as Ms Robard's trademark gruesome touches - bit of blood, crazy psycho, oh and hamster lovers may choose to abstain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Romantic suspense 12 Dec 1998
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
In the middle of the night, Bexley, Ohio Judge Grace Hart realizes that her fifteen-year old daughter, Jessica, is not home. She calls the police, who promptly respond to her cry for help. However, during the interview with the local police, Detective Tony Marino arrives with Jessica, who is suffering from sugar shock. They rush her to the hospital and Jessica recovers.

Strange things begin to happen to Grace. Somehow, a trespasser continually manages to get inside her home. Grace thinks it is the son she once gave up for adoption. Tony keeps an eye out as he feels he must protect "my girls". Tony and Grace soon fall in love. However, before they can pursue any future together, they must stop the intruder, who plans to kill both of the female Harts.

Karen Robards is a popular author whose romantic suspense novels are, rightfully so, very popular among readers. Her latest tale, THE MIDNIGHT HOUR, has a very absorbing storyline. The suspense keeps growing until the very end of the book. The characters feel genuine especially Grace's concern with her teenage daughter's aberrant behavior. Fans of romantic suspense will heartily enjoy Ms. Robards newest book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Her Best 27 May 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Not bad...but not her best. I've read all of her contemporary novels and loved a few enough to keep and reread often, particularly my favorite Hunter's Moon. The Midnight Hour lacked a lot of romantic tension that her other books seem to have because she did not include the hero's voice in any significant way until almost halfway through the book. He's just a secondary character for far too long. Another major sore point for me was the stalkers viewpoint...unfortunately it read like an older person trying to think young and angry. Pretty trite and unimaginative...very unconvincing...and not very scary either. I guess I'm a little closer to an age when I can still vividly rememeber the angst and anger of being a teenager, so in particular this character came across to me as very forced. But she threw some good plot twists in at the end to keep the reader thinking. Not bad...but not her best!
