This is one of the few truly great Buddhist books ever published in English. It would be hard to improve upon, and there will be no need for anyone to try their hand at this again in the future unless the English language changes substantially. The subject matter is sublime, a large collection of the original sutra teachings of Buddha, and the translators are the best in their field, scholar-practitioners with a long history of producing the clearest writings in this difficult field. And simply as a book it is of the highest quality, with exceptional binding, quality paper and excellent typesetting. You can't go wrong here.

Probably the Nikaya with the greatest breadth of teachings without becoming too deep and esoteric. Ideal if you were trying to choose which Nikaya to buy. For anyone serious about learning the most authentic Buddhist teachings this is really one book you will appreciate. 152 suttas covering many aspects of the teachings, it has proved a great aid to my Buddhist reading.

Its impossible to properly review the content, but I'll write a few words about the book its self - its a beautifully made book. There's lots of fabric in the binding and the covers are bound in fabric with the title embossed into it (the picture here is just of the dust jacket). Even though the book is quite heavy, if I hold it up by just pinching the edge of one of the covers I can hold it at any angle, and even shake it a little, and it still won't fall open from its own weight. Very very sturdy, can tell it will last a life time.
