Product Description

Product Description

Lakeland Fellranger guidebook by Mark Richards covering 22 summits in the Mid-Western Fells of the Lake District, including a wide range of walks, old and new, in the triangle between Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. The group centres on the two highest hills in England, the mighty Scafell Pike and Sca Fell, with their many wild dale approaches. Author Mark Richards combines his passion for the Lake District and artistic flair with all the information the experienced walker needs to explore and enjoy the Mid-Western Fells. For each of the 22 hills covered, this guide offers a dedicated chapter, with full descriptions of a range of new and old routes, full-colour Harvey maps and clear elevation diagrams, detailed summit panoramas and lots of inspiring photographs. It is one of the first four to be published in Cicerone's 8-volume Lakeland Fellranger series, which provides a comprehensive new guide to the fells of the English Lake District, with a selection of new routes up more than 230 hills.

This book is clear, concise and detailed. The information provided also gives a great overview of all the mountains in that area should you wish to tackle an individual mountain or a series of hills. Accurate detailing and up-to-date info make this book a fantastic choice for exploring the Lake District.

If you are looking to explore and familiarise yourself with the Southwestern Fells of the Lake District then this has to be the best book around for that purpose. I can think of no other guide that has so much information on the Fells in this area. I recently stayed in the Duddon Valley area and used this book to identify the best walks and it added much to my holiday. All the main fells in the area , including Stickle Pike , Black Combe , Caw and the Coniston range (amongst many others) are fully described and photographed.

This particuar entry in Mark Richards excellent Fellranger series of guides has been my personal favourite so far as it includes so many of the fells that A Wainwright missed out in his Southern Fells guide. Although many of the fells here are covered in AW's Outlying Fells , they are nowhere near as fully detailed as they are in this guide and whats more , these books are more up to date. While AWs guides will always remain the staple guides to Lakeland , the Fellranger guides more than compliment them. Recommended!

This books is really useful and complements the Wainwright books. The pictures are really superb with the route maps being especially clear. The rest of the guides are on my shopping list.
