If you are looking to explore and familiarise yourself with the Southwestern Fells of the Lake District then this has to be the best book around for that purpose. I can think of no other guide that has so much information on the Fells in this area. I recently stayed in the Duddon Valley area and used this book to identify the best walks and it added much to my holiday. All the main fells in the area , including Stickle Pike , Black Combe , Caw and the Coniston range (amongst many others) are fully described and photographed.
This particuar entry in Mark Richards excellent Fellranger series of guides has been my personal favourite so far as it includes so many of the fells that A Wainwright missed out in his Southern Fells guide. Although many of the fells here are covered in AW's Outlying Fells , they are nowhere near as fully detailed as they are in this guide and whats more , these books are more up to date. While AWs guides will always remain the staple guides to Lakeland , the Fellranger guides more than compliment them. Recommended!
