Misleading Book 19 Nov 2009
I bought this book today (not from Amazon) and thought what a nice book. It has some brilliant photos of Michael Jackson and reprints concert tickets and even Michael Jackson's high school yearbook from 1972 with some very rare photos of Michael Jackson is class with other kids his age.

The photos and reprints give the impression that this is a book celebrating Michael Jackson. But when reading the actual text of the book which on the cover claims it's "Celebrating The King of Pop in Memorabila and Photos", it's actual a book that a little too much on the negative side. The author Jason King's text is pretentious, full of sweeping statements and of half baked unproven media stories he reports as fact, despite his claim the book is subjective. He writes such things that Michael Jackson is most likely not the biological father of Prince and Paris, because 2004 court documents filed in a custody court case show that she was inseminated by an anonymous sperm donor, despite the fact no such file exists and Jason King hasn't named or shown a reference to prove this.

Another he sweeping statement is that Michael Jackson was in no shape to perform, and that he was hooked on demerol, morphine and a cocktail of other prescription drugs and sedatives. And this is also untrue, Michael Jackson's autopsy showed he had NO drugs in his body, wasn't an addict and had healthy organs etc. He was a healthy 50yr and was killed by propofol and nothing else. The autopsy report also stated Michael Jackson was fit enough to tour (as the This Is It movie shows) despite some minor arthritis in his lower back.

This book a great photos that traces Michael Jackson's career from 1969-2009. But it's really just a book about Jason King's tabloid view on how he see's Michael Jackson, not a well researched book as even some of the picture dates are inaccurate. I feel my money has been wasted buying this book, because it's just an author cashing in by using a some brilliant photos and negative and sub-standard text. There are much better books about like Michael Jackson than is misleading garbage.

Michael Jackson Treasures is a great item for fans if you just look at the photographs and ignore most of the text. This book (like many on MJ) which one presumes the author has been commissioned to write, suffers from containing too little fact and too much tabloid fabrication about its subject. Given that MJ had over four decades as an entertainer/public figure, there is plenty to put in this kind of largely photographic volume without resorting to unsubstantiated rumours or outright fiction.

King would have been best served to have taken a leaf out of Adrian Grant's book Michael Jackson: The Visual Documentary: The Visual Documentary 1958-2009. The Official Tribute Edition for details of Jackson's career, and Chris Cadman and Craig Halstead Michael Jackson For The Record - 2nd Edition Revised and Expanded for the music.

Michael Jackson felt strongly about giving the fans their money's worth whenever he released a record or gave a live performance. It was part of what fuelled his constant need to perfect his craft and go beyond the point where others would have felt they had done enough.

Pity a lot of his so-called biographers have failed to achieve a similar standard, if, in fact, they have even tried.

Firstly this book was bought for someone who is a huge fan of MJ, so naturally they thought it was the bees knees. I mist admit that the style and construction of the book also led me in as well, as I poked around the many envelopes and slits where "treasures" such a recreated concert tickets, and the designs for his famous gravity defying shoes hid.

The book is of superb quality and presentation. A real treasury of information. But one thing about information is that it should be taken with a pinch of salt, especially when concerned with a character such as MJ, and the many conspiracies, and tabloid stories that surrounded the legendary man. I have not read a great deal of the text, but have looked in on his life from a young child to the King of Pop, and one thing i can be certain of is that I will never know the real truth because I was not there.

Many authors have their own agendas and egos that need satisfying and realistically the only man capable of putting rumours and musings of overactive minds to rest is at rest.

What we can be sure of no matter what the books say, is that Michael was an incredible performer and musician, a legendary figure in the face of music, everyone knows Michael Jackson when they hear it. He was benevolent, kind, and died sadly before his time. Though some might say he had more than his share of it, but nearly all of which he spent pleasing others with his music.

This book is another testament to his acheivements and fame. It is produced in a brilliant style, and offers something different than just the text explaining the letter, or the the ticket, you can actually hold them in your hand, and look at them.

A must for any MJ fan, and dangerously interesting to anyone who is not as well. Brilliant book.
