If you buy this, go for the Limited Edition. Though Amazon don't mention it, it also includes a live concert DVD. Not only that , the price is actually less than the "normal" version with no DVD! Here goes:
- Recaptures much of the magic of "Where Twilight Dwells". Definitely a stronger album than the follow up "Nordlys". Maybe more metal and less folk in the mix than "Twilight", but the metal is more "molten" than Nordlys - some great flowing guitar riffage here, somehow in short supply in that last album. There are also more "symphonic" elements than in the mix than before.
Carmen Elise' vocals are as strong and entrancing as ever. Just here and there though she seems to be straining to make herself heard over the top of the rest of the band all going full blast, you wish they would give her a little more space.
Just one more thing-the last minute or so of "The Tide" did to my ears bear more than a passing resemblance to Delain's wondrous "Sleepwalkers Dream". Bit naughty that - best try to think of it as a "tribute"! But don't just take my word for it, buy "Lucidity "as well, and decide for yourself....
This CD is again Grunt-free, bar the final (bonus)track. Overall, a clear "Four Stars" just for the CD-and it might well be enough of a "grower" to grow a Fifth with a few more plays. The Limited Edition earns a Fifth now anyway from the second disc:
A full 50 minute and more live set,from MFVF 2009. They play 8 numbers from the first 2 albums(En Natt I Nord/Haunted/Northern Light/Konkylie/Open Your Eyes/Lament/Skogens Lengsel/Tapt Av Hapt)
The band plays a mean set and sounds every bit as strong live as they do in the studio. And its 100% Grunt-free! Unusually though, there are no "extras" at all -these could have made good use of the running time left on the disc.
