Product Description

Product Description

The letter of 2 Corinthians is important, Paul Barnett believes, for its magnificent message that God's power is brought to people in their weakness, not in human strength.

This momentous theme emerges in a dramatic real-life situation. The apostle confronts shadowy opponents who had recently come to Corinth and formed an alliance with some of the church leaders and members. His letter is a fascinating record of that conflict.

Paul Barnett argues that this heated debate between apparent power and apparent weakness is still with us today. His aim in this exposition has been to allow the timely message of 'God's fool' to be clearly heard.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well priced and straightforward! 24 July 2014
The Bible speaks today series are usually reasonable value for money and that is certainly the case here. It's an easy read with enough detail for sermon preparation or leading a Bible studies. Not too over technical, but giving you enough in the way of explanation when it comes to translation if there are issues with it in the text. As is common with the series it often approaches the passage by dividing it into themes and this can be quite useful as it does give a varied approach that is different from other commentaries. I would use alongside other commentaries as different approaches can certainly help. However, if you were just looking to get acquainted with the book of 2 Corinthians in your own Bible study on think this would be a very good place to start.

This is a good reference book to enable a better understanding of Paul's letters to the Corinthians. I use it for sermon research when a reading from 2 Corinthians is the Common Worship Lectionary epistle for a specific Sunday, as well as for personal understanding.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good overview of 2 Corinthians 6 Dec 2006

Barnett's commentary is relatively brief -- especially compared with those of David Garland and C.K. Barrett, the leading authorities on 2 Corinthians. But he is very readable, and his focus is always on the edification and encouragement Paul's letter offers to modern believers.
4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 19 Dec 2012

Another excellent commentary in the Bible Speaks Today series. This one is more concise than some others in the series, and yet covers the major issues well, not avoiding difficult interpretations, but dealing with them briefly. There are also good applications to church life today. I highly recommend this, especially for those who are teaching 2 Corinthians.
