A very comprehensive medical information book - clear to the non-professional reader. The book covers many medical subjects, common and rare. It gives very accurate information with a very good referencing method that enables each reader to learn a subject to the desired depth. There are good introduction chapters on each body system, with clear charts and figures. The medical problems and testaments are described in short paragraphs with easy to read symptoms tables for the more common problems. In most cases you don't need to read to whole chapter in order to find an answer. The index is simple and it usually takes only few minutes to find the information you are looking for, even when the problem is rare. It is hard to believe how much information can be included in a single book. We found it always very effective to read the relevant chapter before talking to the doctor.

A publishing event of the most signifigance for 1997. The long establisher bible for medical doctors and almost everyone in the field of medicine, is for the first time written specifically for the non-medical reader. Over 1500 pages covering diseases, causes, treatments, drugs etc. this is the finest 1 volume medical authority every home should have. A layman's medical book has been long overdue. Who but the editors of Merck Pharaceuticals could take on this daunting task. At AMAZON's discounted price of less then $21.00 the bargain in hard cover publishing. WE RATE IT A BEST BUY !!!!!!!!

This book acts as an excellent source of information for both the consumer and the professional. The book's format is easy to understand, yet it provides enough information to make a good understanding about a broad range of medical issues. I would recommend the book to anyone who is looking for a good source of medical information.

I HAVE USED THE MANUEL FOR YEARS.
IT GIVES ME A LOT OF HELP DISCUSSING SIDE EFFECTS, CAUTIONS, ETC WITH MY PHARMACY PATIENTS.

A good resource for easily diagnosing ailments.
With the book, I was able to accurately diagnose that I had shin splints. Later, my friend, who is a doctor, confirmed that I was right.
