The long bible of organic chemistry is of course Chemical Abstracts, but the Merck Index is a readily accesscible volume of common organic and pharmaceutical molecules that sits on my bench ready for action. I have bought every issue from the 11th and found each one to be of value. I am an information scientist and pharmacist in the UK and it is of use to look up a molecule and get all the references to it's synthesis, it's patents it's actions etc and most of all it's structure, now in 3D (Well almost <GG>) I will be buying this volume. Well done to Susan Budavari and her team

MERCK'S REVELATIONS 29 Dec. 2002
By reviewer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This edition of "The Merck Index: An Encyclopedia of Chemicals, Drugs, & Biologicals" shows remarkable improvement over its predecessor.
Boasting of diverse groups of chemicals and pharmaceuticals, it is a success in its own right. There are just plenty to be explored! The book brims with accurate up-to-date information. Pharmacists, Medics, Chemists, Biologists, Physicists, Agriculturists, and many other professionals who work with elements, compounds and mixtures will find this book very useful. It is revised, and is complemented with detailed descriptions, which include molecular formulae, molecular weights, as well as the percentage compositions of constituent chemicals in a compound or mixture.
It is a valuable reference tool.

Excellent chemical reference! 16 Dec. 2002
By Autmotive Engineer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This book must be the most organized reference book I have ever used. Its so fulfilling to be able to find exactly what you're looking for when you need it. Includes a common name index, chemical formula index, as well as registry numbers, therapeutic categories for drugs, useful tables, and organic chemical equations. highly recommended!

Pretty good 11 Feb. 2010

There is no reason to buy a brand new edition of this manual, because the older editions have similar information, possibly different with regards to minor details of the measurements (.5 degrees melting point, etc). If you are looking for a Merck Index, buy used.
Merck Index 30 Jan. 2014

I decided to purchase a Merck Index to help me with Chemistry classes. This particular copy has tons of information that is very useful to the chemistry student. I know everyone looks things up online but you can't beat owning a great resource book that will last.

This book is amazing. It was helpful during my general chemistry and Ochem classes. I recommend using this if you need to know boiling points, melting points, structures, and other important information
