Product Description

Product Description

The Mentoring Pocketbook now in its third edition shows how to design and manage a mentoring scheme, how to prepare to be a mentor, how to conduct mentoring sessions, how to maintain the relationship through the different stages and how to evaluate mentoring. Before looking at the actual mentoring process, the authors deal with the uses of mentoring within organisations (particularly in the context of managing change and mission/value statements) and explain how mentoring differs from coaching, training and appraisals. The process of mentoring is explained with the aid of a 3-stage model. This can be used to assess yourself as a mentor, as a map to guide you through the process, as a review tool and as a means to develop the mentee's ability to use the model independently. Subsequent chapters explore the mentor-mentee relationship and address key issues and questions. Although primarily aimed at the mentor, The Mentoring Pocketbook is also helpful to mentees. A consistently best-selling title within the Management Pocketbooks Series!

Format:Paperback
The Mentoring Pocketbook may be small in size but large in value. Its eighty-six pages neatly summarized hours of work online reseaching the purpose and uses of the mentoring model. My school has recently implemented a mentoring program, of which I am a part. Although this book is aimed at mentoring in professional organisations, its information is easily adaptable to use in other venues. Of particular help to me was the information on the types of relationships which closely ties into the types of language registers that we teach as part of our language arts classes. The 3-Stage Model section is well laid out and each stage well defined. I am delighted to add this book to my professional library. I will use it as our mentoring program develops. I will also use it as a reference in writing my summary paper on the mentoring process which I am using as part of my Ph.D. program in Psychology.

Excellent resource 8 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
This is an excellent resource for both formal and informal mentors. We run in-house mentoring programmes with our corporate clients, and often they distribute this book to both mentors and mentees, and the feedback is always excellent. It's brief and focused, and full of useful tips and suggestions to inspire great mentoring. Although it looks simple, it's not simplistic and is based on some very solid research and years of experience. Highly recommended.

Format:Paperback
Excellent little publication to carry about and use as an aide memoire. Handy if both mentor and mentee have a copy.
