About the Author

Mark Kleanthous has competed in more than 1,050 competitions worldwide during the last 32 years. During preparing for these events he has experienced almost every physical and mental set back and has learned how to deal with them. Mark's first experience was coming last in his first competition; this did not stop him training for more than 11 years until he won his first of many competitions. Despite adversity, he crossed the finish in line all but two competitions he started. Mark is now a mental coach and motivational speaker and still competes today.

Most training manuals are principly geared to physical training. This book is invaluable in its content for a fledgling or a hardened competitor. The mental training covers alleviating as much stress pre or during events. Problems that could occour and how to deal with them. In fact a training manual for the brain, succinctly put.
Just look at Mark's pedigree.if you are deliberating !

Unfortunately I am going to have to be honest and say that although it is clear that Mark is a fine athlete his writing prowess leaves a little to be desired! This book is full of obvious statements and useless one liners there really is no substance and I unfortunately found myself swearing at the content and just couldn't make it to the last chapter! Spend your money elsewhere.

The only reason I haven't stopped reading is because I like to finish what I've started. 10 Oct. 2014
By Etienne Philip Bester - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I'm fighting my way through this book at present, being about 3/4 of the way through I have yet to find anything really worthy of the subtitle. The only reason I haven't stopped reading is because I like to finish what I've started.

If you are looking for long unstructured lists of one liners basically repeating the same things over and over again, interspersed with catchy quotes and great photography, this is the book for you.

I have no doubt that the author has a wealth of knowledge on the subject, but that knowledge is not packaged in a digestible and actionable format.

If you want a better, if older, book dealing with this subject, try "The Triathlete's Guide to Mental Training" by Ph.D. Jim Taylor and Terri Schneider.
