This book was a new year's resolution purchase - felt like I had to do something back in early 2005. I read it from the comfort of a cozy armchair and then it all started! - first by shopping for food!!!! Seriously - I took control of the rubbish that I was eating and being bought for me by a well meaning wife. Motivated by the case studies of some serious "fat knackers" that were worse than me! and their "before" and "after" pics were inpressive. Followed the principles and went along to a gym to try using dumbells for the first time in my life. Started out by following the guide and would manage about 20 minutes at first. After going a few times a week for 2 months I had lost a stone and was getting really quite toned. Weight stabilised and my arms are gettiing huge now. Bought some dumbells in the sale for less than a tenner and now exercise from home and keeping the weight off.

I sleep better for exercising and this all helps with how you feel too.

Before long the book becomes superfluous as its all down to you and is a bit American but if you want to get going try this for some motivation.

The real value of this book is not so much the workout and diet program, but the success stories of several men who range in age from their early 20s to 40s and have lost a considerable amount of weight. What is unique about the book is that none of the men featured in it have followed the program in the book. This does work, however, because the message I got from those stories is that we can't just rely on this workout or that diet to lose weight and get in shape. Ultimately, we all have to figure out what makes sense to us and what works for us and fit it into our own lifestyle. There are some common threads that run through each success story and if you focus on those things, you can succeed no matter what approach you end up taking.
The diet and workout program presented in the book is based on some sound research and will probably work if you give it a try, but even if you don't follow the specific program in the book, it's still worth buying so you can learn from others who have successfully beaten their weight problems in their own way.

The book is a real down to earth acount of real men losing weight. Reading the different "tricks" that people use is helpful, giving the reader insight to new tricks that they can use. The work out program with simple equipment that can be used at home is great. Not everyone can or wants to go to the gym. I wish it had more recipes though.

Very easy read. But nothing really new in the world of weight-loss. What I do like about this book, is that it gives dozens of real-life case studies of how ordinary people improved their fitness and lost unwanted weight. It gives a person a good idea that if someone else can do it, then "why not me?" Good motivator for those who are humming and hawing about getting slimmer and healthier. I also liked the wide variety of eating and exercise plans. Something for everyone.
