Product Description

Derby County FC was formed in 1884 and was the youngest of the founder members of the Football League just four years later. The club's controversial birth and four crucial pre-League seasons are chronicled here in detail for the first time. The book includes a remarkable "Who's Who" of ever player from those pioneering days that wore the "chocolate and blue".
Meet the "Flying Bishop", famous international cricketers, an intrepid mountain-climbing cleric, the cider maker whose hat-trick destroyed Forest, two tragic drowning victims, a "Burmese goalie", the disgraced manure salesman, and countless more besides in a colourful line-up of over 100 characters who were "The Men Who Made The Rams".
Famous victories, farcical defeats, bitter rivalries, near oblivion and glorious survival - the "lost years" of Derby County are brought vividly to life in entertaining style, the final "missing pieces" in the unique history of a great football club. All Rams' fans should know and cherish their roots; here within is that magic story.

Received this book from my Wife for Christmas; what a thoroughly fascinating and entertaining read!
Lots of well-researched information that really puts 'colour' into the story of the origins of the world's greatest football club!
It would've been easy to allow these things to slip unnoticed into history, but this book brings the folks who formed the
club that became the Rams back to life in great detail. Top marks to the author.
A tale of politics, pettiness and perseverance; endeavour, embezzlement and envy; with lots of surprising and interesting
information for those who like history, even if you're not a Derby County nut. Above all, it's just a good story, charting the
club's rise from the first meeting at The Bell Hotel to founder members of the Football League.
A MUST for anyone who's ever followed the fortunes of the amber, chocolate and blues of Derbyshire County Football Club.
Buy it now is my advice!

Format: Paperback
The book contains a narrative account of Derby County's formation and pre-Football League history. There are detailed biographies of all the players involved, plus match details to keep the statisticians happy. Read about the "flying bishop", international cricketers, a mountain-climbing cleric, a disgraced manure salesman and many other "men who made the Rams".
