Forensic psychiatrist Jo Beckett is called to assist when an ex-soldier, Ian Kannan, loses control on a flight to San Francisco and has to be restrained. Kannan is suffering from a rare form of amnesia but is adamant that his family is being held by a terrorist cell who want him to supply them with a deadly biological weapon. The same weapon that has eaten away his memory.

When Kannan goes AWOL, apparently intent on dispensing some `natural justice' and rescuing his family, Jo teams up with her lover Gabe, a search and rescue expert with the National Guard, and spiky cop Amy Tang to track Kannan down and try and prevent a horrendous disaster.

In this, the second Jo Beckett adventure, Gardiner tells a great multi-strand story, taking an audacious concept and making us breathless with a race through high octane thrills and reversals of fortune. The Memory Collector is well researched with a vigorous prose style. Gardiner's characters are strongly drawn; the women capable, brave and independent, the men three dimensional and we root for them all the way.

Scary thought 17 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having read other books by Meg Gardiner I knew that I was in for a good read. But, how could anyone be a 'memory collector'? Was this going to be full of psychology which I wouldn't understand and even in the first few pages, I still wasn't sure of the genre. It soon became clear and the premise was a bit scary. A genetic modification to a substance which could adjust the memory cells in humans and one group wanting to control that for its own ends. The twists and turns in the story, the characters, everything about this book advises me to recommend to other readers. This was a good buy from Amazon for my Kindle.
