Good, but Very Short

While Franco Cesati obviously knows the Medici very, very well, this book barely scratches the surface of that knowledge. He covers about 750 years of Tuscan history in just 135 small pages. And the text is "stretched" by several pictures on each page. Without the pictures this book would be less than 100 pages. I still gave the book 4 stars simply because the author knows his stuff and it really is a great intro to the Medici. For something a little more in-depth, check out The House of Medici: Its Rise and Fall or Magnifico: The Brilliant Life and Violent Times of Lorenzo de' Medici.

Good introductory book on the Medici

This book presents a very basic information on the Medici, which is not necessarily a bad thing. If you don't know anything about the Medici family and would like a light introduction on the topic, this would be a good book to get.
Recommended to those who may be visiting Florence and would like to know a little bit more about the history of the city and the patrons who banked the Renaissance.
