5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing 29 Jan 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
`The maze was only the beginning' never have I read a truer tag line! The scorch trials was an amazing follow up to the brilliant The Maze runner. Our boys are thrown into the action right from page one and it doesn't stop until the very end as they all battle to make it through the scorch trials. I love Thomas and think he makes a great and very brave hero, he's loyal to his friends all the way through and always tries to do what he thinks is the right thing, and his budding romance with Theresa is just lovely to read. There are a lot of unseen twists to the plot and, like Thomas, I found myself questioning who I should really be trusting and of course what the hell will happen next! Because you really never know in this series, that's why I'm on the edge of my seat awaiting the third book, The death cure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Devilishly WICKED... 12 Mar 2013
By Dan S
Format:Paperback
I absolutely loved The Maze Runner, and this sequel (the second in the trilogy) is a fantastic continuation. At the end of Maze Runner, the reader is left with more questions than answers, and so I couldn't wait to dive straight in and find out what happened next...

The story picks up exactly where the last left off, with Thomas and his fellow gladers escaping the perils of the maze, only to find the danger has only really just begun. Unleashed into a world sent mad by a global viral epidemic called The Flare, the population is out of control, and terrifying people "past the gone" (The Cranks) roam the land. As Thomas and his friends are shuttled off to a place of "safety" surrounded by screaming Cranks, questions arise over the nature of their rescuers. Who is in control here, and was the escape from the maze a victory for the gladers, or part of a much bigger plan of manipulation?

WICKED are as devilishly wicked as ever here, and the mind games soon descend on the gladers. But are WICKED the good guys, or the bad? Teresa goes missing, a new boy called Aris mysteriously arrives in her place, and the group find tattoos on their backs with strange labels like "The Glue", "The Leader" and "To be killed". Then a sinister man dubbed the "Ratman" arrives and tells the boys that they must cross the sun-baked desert that is now Earth in search of a cure for The Flare (and this is all in the first couple of chapters!!). And so off they set, into a word of unbelievable danger and adventure to search for the cure for The Flare, and of course, Thomas' beloved Teresa...

Chuck in some new characters along the way (I won't elaborate and spoil it for you), and a whole host of twists, tricks and turns along the way, and you have yet another fantastic adventure from Mr. Dashner. As I mentioned in my review of The Maze Runner, the reader is (as always) just as in the dark as the characters, and this is something you will either relish or hate. The chapters roll thick and fast, and there is ALWAYS some fiendish twist of some sort at the end of each one.

As I said in my last review, the trilogy just gets better and better, culminating in an exploding finale in the final book, The Death Cure.

It was so good, I want to read it again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible! 29 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
James Dashner has wowed me once again with the second instalment in the maze runner trilogy.

The book starts off where it ends, in the dorm where the 'rescuers' took them after the maze trials. Thomas wakes to find Teresa gone, the rescuers dead and a boy in the room Teresa was in the night before. Then it is discovered that the boy, Aris, was part of group B, the girl substitute of the Gladers. Aris was the Teresa of group B, in retrospect. There is a lot of parts after this that are too detailed for a book review, but they do patch up some of the holes left in maze runner. The Gladers are told to go on a journey through a wasteland the Flare victims are sent to. Like a quarantine city. There is a lot of adventure and excitement throughout this journey. Thomas doesn't know what to feel for Teresa, he meets another girl, and he actually has to survive too (As if his love life isn't complicated enough without having to survive as well)! All I can say right now without giving too much away is: brilliant read!

4.0 out of 5 stars OK ish
I liked this. Not because of the storyline which was marginally better than the third book, but because I like the characters. That aside, there is not much too it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first book
This seems like a rushed sequel. Not much happens plot wise relative to the first book and the first book promised much more for this trilogy.
