About the Author
Mario Reading is a multi-talented writer of both fiction and non-fiction. His varied life has included selling rare books, teaching riding in Africa, studying dressage in Vienna, running a polo stable in Gloucestershire and maintaining a coffee plantation in Mexico. Reading is an acknowledged expert on the prophecies of Nostradamus.

This is the second book in what is shaping up to be a fabulous trilogy. It does stand alone but you would benefit from reading the first book, The Nostradamus Prophecies first. See review below. In this book we are taken to Adam's home in the US, and then on to South America and Mexico.
I love intelligent thrillers and this certainly is one! I also like to really learn something new and again this does not disappoint. In this book our flawed and realistic hero Adam joins forces with the now retired French policeman Calque ( a brilliant portrait of a gritty, mature detective) in a chase across the American continent to retrieve the Mayan Codex as predicted in the "lost" prophecies of Nostradamus. They are being chased as usual by members of the treacherous De Bale family, all intent on revenge for the death of their brother, and in this book we learn more about their history and intentions.
I learnt so much about the Mayans, and the wonderful set pieces would make this a fabulous film. I loved the scene in the bar in the US between the Hells Angels and the De Bales and the ending is as good a cliff hanger as I have read in a long time. I cannot say much as this would create spoilers.
Suffice to say it is a fast paced rip roaring ride and I cannot wait

OK, I'm coming at this from a blank background and with this being the second title in the series, I was left wondering what I'd missed from the original. Not that this didn't stand alone but purely for the detail as well as reading pleasure alongside hidden facts just brought the whole piece to life. The author has not only conducted a great deal of research into his subject matter but made sure that the reader also inherits some of the passion for this ancient culture. It's got some great prose, some interesting characters and to be honest I had a blast reading this book. A great thriller with a good sense of pace and one that will definitely have me looking for the first novel sooner rather than later.

The Mayan Codex is the second in the series from Mario Reading. I read this before i read the first book in the series - The Nostradamus Prophecies - and i really enjoyed this book. The story is well put together and the author has got all his facts and dates correct. The villians are very exciting, with the action welld escribed (you can almost picture it). Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

disappointed
I brought this as I had enjoyed the previous book but somehow this one did not gell and I did not enjoy it as much.

The Mayan Codex
A great sequel - sometimes they are not! But, no, this one raced me through page by page keeping me riveted. Cant wait for the next one!!!
