This is a collection of Mary Wells recordings for Motown, beginning in 1960 with her own composition "Bye Bye Baby".
All her Motown hits are here except "Your Old Standby", which reached number 40 in the US pop charts in 1963. I don't know why this track was omitted, it would have made much more sense to include it in preference to "One Block From Heaven". This omission is the only reason I haven't given 5 stars.
Also included on this cd are 2 duets with Marvin Gaye, "Once Upon a Time" and "What's the Matter with You Baby", which were released as a single in 1964, both sides making the US top 20.
The 20 tracks appear to be in chronological order of recording (big cheer!) and no less than eleven of the songs were written or part written by Smokey Robinson.
Mary Wells left Motown in 1964 and went on to have several minor hits for other record labels, but did not come close to her Motown successes, which she will always be fondly remembered for. Mary sadly died in 1992.
