My husband who is a huge golf fan and reads many books of the golf genre says this is the best of them all. Alistair Cooke has such a marvellous writing style combine this with golf and its a perfect buy for golf fans.

I grew up the same neck of the woods as Cooke and was delighted to find he became a golf enthusiast in later life. These writings touch upon his Lancashire youth, his meetings with golfing greats (he clearly adores the great Bobby Jones) and US Presidents, and the cultural differences between golf in the UK and US.

The essays are witty, warm, insightful and full of memorable stories. If you love golf, I cannot recommend these writings highly enough.

Languid, silky, under-stated prose captures the reality and spirit of golf. There's no knowledge of golf needed. Read, enjoy, admire!!!

Highly recommended but why do I have to say so much in a review when a few words will do
