Unforgettable 17 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I read this book many years ago and now I re-read it. Even though I remembered who Zorro was and what happened next, I could enjoy the book very much again. Fast-paced, easy to read and a nice mixture of action and comedy. I feel now what makes this book unforgettable is not Senor Zorro, but Don Diego. Senor Zorro is splended, but he is rather an ordinary hero. Don Diego is a very interesting character (funny, sometimes). Without Don Diego, more exactly, without the strange combination of Don Diego and Zorro, this book would not be so impressive, so attractive. And I like the exotic atmosphere of old Spanish-California is described vividly.

A TRUE MASTERPIECE 18 Sep 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
BETTER THAN ANY OF THE MOVIE OR TELEVISION TELLINGS OF THE ZORRO LEGEND. THIS IS A TRUE ORIGINAL. HAS TO GO ON ANYONE'S LIST OF ALL TIME GREATEST ADVENTURE/ACTION YARNS. I PUT IT UP THERE WITH "THE THREE MUSKETEERS" OR "THE BLACK ARROW". GOOD CONTRAST OF CHARACTERIZATIONS. THE FINAL FIGHT SCENE WHERE DON DIEGO TAKES ON CAPTAIN RAMON AND HIS MEN IS ABSOLUTELY HEARTPOUNDING. THE "MARK OF ZORRO" WILL KEEP YOU RIVETED FROM BEGINNING TO END. A GREAT STORY, MASTERFULLY TOLD!

Viva Senor Zorro! 9 Sep 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I got the paperback edition of "The Mark of Zorro" at a bookstore, and it's absolutely fabulous! In this book, the soldiers of Los Angeles are frustrated by the outlaw Senor Zorro, while the lifeless nobleman Don Diego Vega tries to woo Senorita Lolita Pulido. She rejects him but falls in love with Zorro. And nobody realizes Senor Zorro is really Don Diego!

My favorite scene in the book is the scene after Senor Zorro has humiliated Sergeant Gonzales and escaped, only to return as Don Diego. Don Diego proceeds to ask the Sergeant to tell him what happened, since Gonzales told Don Diego that he'd relate how he played with Senor Zorro before killing him. Gonzales can't reveal how Zorro humiliated him, of course, so he finally gets so frustrated he stomps out. And Don Diego knows full well what happened, since he was Senor Zorro! That is a masterpiece of irony, and quite funny.

In short, I loved it and I say Viva Senor Zorro!

Belle Book
