Amazon Review

In Tim F LaHaye's The Mark, it's the dawn of the Great Tribulation, "the bloodiest season in the history of the world". After lying in state for three days, Nicolae Carpathia has risen from the dead. As the world responds in awe, statues of the potentate and "god" are erected in every major city, and a new religion, "Carpathianism", is in full swing. Followers of the Antichrist are branded with a loyalty mark on their right hands or their foreheads, and "vaccinated" with a biochip embedded with personal information. Those who refuse the mark take a one-way trip to the guillotine. The second coming of Christ is only three and one-half years away. But can the Tribulation Force hang on?

"The God who calls you to the ultimate sacrifice will also give you the power to endure it. No one can receive the mark of the beast by accident. It is a once-for-all decision that will forever condemn you to eternity without God," writes Tsion Ben-Judah in his daily newsletter with its cyber-audience of more than a billion. Heavenly power may be the only hope for the Tribulation Force, as it struggles to survive amid new terrors, the death of more loved ones, and some unexpected twists in their plans.

The Mark: The Beast Rules the World is the eighth instalment in the blockbuster Left Behind series. Rich in dialogue, this action-packed thriller delivers the same consistent mix of apocalyptic mayhem and quirky humour readers have come to expect from the pen of Jerry Jenkins and the prophetic interpretations of Tim Lahaye. --Cindy Crosby

4.0 out of 5 stars Marking the Mark 26 July 2011
By Jack
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I always find it frustrating when the title suggests that the story will be all about the title, but again the author keeps you in suspense by actually waiting till almost the last chapter before the title of the book is actually addressed, however the book is again a good read and even though at times it is hard to follow the characters stories it is worth reading! I suppose the style of writing is inevitable since we do not know what the end times will actually be like... good imagination!

The Left Behind series should be read as a warning to all people that although these are 'works of fiction'they are proclaiming the events that are to happen within the next generation. Read and get to know the God who loves you.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Choice 7 Oct 2007
Format:Hardcover
This is book eight of the Left behind series. And though the writing is simple and there is very little character development. I still was able to read it on one afternoon. It does help that the book is short. Though it has 380 pages, the typeset and margins make it equivalent to a 100-page book.

In this book we have Carpathia no longer being Mr. Nice guy. He orders that everyone will worship him. And to prove their loyalty they have a choice. They may take the mark of the beast; or have their heads cut off. We do read about the process of choice in Greece. And I have to say the violence is very graphic.

Of course with the mark being applied, those Tribulation Saints that are still out in the Global Community have to flee. And we have the Tribulation Force helping them escape where they can. Of course they cannot help everyone. Though they do what they can.

The end of this book has Carpathia heading to Jerusalem. Where he will desecrate the holy temple and proclaim himself God. Thereby breaking his pact with Israel.

Even though I only rated this book two stars. If you plan to continue the series to its conclusion, as I do, you will need to read it. It introduces new characters and sets up some of the next events. For example I think they will write about the exodus of Gods Chosen from Israel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great release! 15 Nov 2000
By Paul Munro VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I've been waiting for this release for around five months, and it was well worth the wait. After the last book I didn't think this series could get any better, but just when you think that Jerry and Co. couldn't pull off another best seller with as much guts as the rest of the series- they go and prove you wrong! The characters are loveable, and realistic; Carpathia gets worse, and the martyrs near the close of the book hold you with their bravery and the book at this point is terrifying and fantastically well written.
Five stars for this one- another great way to spend an evening, and I can't think of a better series of books to read during that time that will make you laugh, cry, and shout for more...I'll be booking the next one as soon as Amazon lists it :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars The Mark; Intense, scary, thought provoking 16 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
After 17,000,000 books already being sold in the series, the Mark hits the shelves as the first book "Left Behind" is about to be released as a movie. Continuing the Saga of those left behind, this 'Episode' once again reveals a little bit more of the story, as the tribulation hots up. As many of the other books you can get bogged down in all the padding out, but again as all the other books, by the time you've put the book down (which is generally once you've reached the end!) you forget this, as it has added to the intencity, and anticipation for what happens next! The Mark often known in terms of 666, is the focus of the book (probably obvious from the title) and at times it becomes too focused, but it's description adds to the fear, suspense, and at times sheer horror, of the times ahead. This book like the whole series is a must for all, as it is (although based on Christian themes (some controversial to Christian and non-Christian alike) a fantasic work from inspired authors. A superb plot, very emotional, and who knows, a glimpse into the future?

Jenkins and LaHaye have taken the criticisms to of the last few books in this series to heart. This one is well-written, action-packed, exciting and emotionally moving. I couldn't put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding - The best in the series so far. 15 Nov 2000
By Miss
Format:Hardcover
From reading all 8 books in the Left Behind series so far, I think that book 8, The Mark, is by far the best yet. Without giving anything away, I will say that as you read the book, you meet new charactors, old faces, twists & turns on every page. This new book in the series will have you stuck in the pages till the very last line! I was!!! I read it in a day with out stoping! Got to bed at 3am!
