Product Description

Consultant dietician: Dr. Mabel Blades BSC RD.

• A delicious and healthy way to lose weight
• Discover the centuries-old secrets that help French women stay slim
• No calorie counting
• Transform your health with simple changes to your diet and lifestyle

About the Book

The Marie Antoinette Diet is based on the eating habits of the 18th-century French queen and generations of French women since. A recipe for painless and delicious weight loss, it is peppered with interesting snippets of French history and served up with a lot of modern science. It is packed with useful tips and information, not just about weight loss, but for improving your overall health with some simple lifestyle changes.

The author, a cake-loving, former fashion and beauty editor, gained 10kg (1st 8lb) while living in France and was determined to lose it for health reasons. A light bulb moment occurred while reading a biography of Marie Antoinette. The French queen ate cake for breakfast and was fond of hot chocolate, but seems to have known instinctively what scientific studies have recently shown: for example, it is not what you eat, but when you eat it. Inspired by Marie Antoinette’s eating habits, and using a recipe for the health-boosting ‘wonder’ soup that the queen ate for dinner every evening, the author created a diet that allowed her to lose 10kg in 10 weeks – while eating normally most of the time. No calorie counting, no food groups excluded and yes – if you follow a few simple rules – you can eat cake.

The Marie Antoinette Diet reveals:

• Why eating cake for breakfast promotes weight loss
• The benefits of a 12-hour night fast
• How to rejuvenate and re-energize your body
• Why diets that ban dessert are doomed to failure
• What we can learn from the 18th-century diet
• The centuries-old secrets of slimming à la française
• The recipe for Marie Antoinette’s health-boosting ‘wonder’ soup
• How to kill cravings for junk food
• The simple changes that will transform your health
• The ‘chill pill’ of the nutrient world
• The (deeply unfashionable) meat that can help weight loss
• The fats that you should be eating (they’re not the ones that you might think)
•Nutritious and slimming soups for every season

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Read, Makes Sense and Actually Works! 23 Aug 2013
By Allison
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Like all Karen's books this was very easy to read and enjoyable - I completed the Kindle edition in a couple of sessions while on holiday (in France of course!) I thought it all made very good sense, seemed more sustainable than a lot of the lifestyle change fad diets around and given that my weight loss goals were very similar to the author's I thought I'd give it a go when I got back home to see how I compared.

That was 3 weeks ago....I lost an amazing 6 lbs in the 1st week, 2.5 lbs in week 2 and another 2.5 in week 3. My work colleagues are green with envy watching me eat cake and yoghurt for breakfast and proper meals at lunchtime and still losing weight while they are drinking weight-loss shakes and eating celery sticks but not losing anything!

I can't pretend it's always easy - I do feel empty when I go to bed and its a pain cooking for my husband in the evening and not eating mine till the next day but once you're in the routine its fine and well worth it given the results (which mean I am looking forward to getting on the scales each morning.) I always ate quite healthily anyway and always had a 12-14 hour fast overnight but I tended to eat very lightly in the day and consumed most calories in the evening, often quite late and not long before going to bed. Simply moving the times that I eat things, making them myself rather than buying pre-prepared food and being consistent with portion sizes seems to have made all the difference. Simple really.

Well done Karen, another good read and an extremely helpful subject. Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of great tips and recipes 23 July 2013
By Debby
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Got this book in the kindle version after enjoying Karen's other books. Love the idea of this diet and whenever we are in France this is the way we tend to live - big lunch and small supper - not so easy at home with working shifts but definitely an ideal to strive towards. Love the recipes - especially the Vichyssoise and the Red Pepper and Pear soup - am also considering buying a juicer for the recommended cucumber and celery juice for the health benefits Karen points out. One thing I have adopted immediately and which I am seeing results for is the 12 hour night fast which fits in well with my shift work pattern and at this time of year is easy to combine with salad for tea. Definitely recommend this book and I shall be buying the print version when it is released so I can refer more easily to all of Karen's tips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and informative 25 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A well researched book with some great recipes. Karen Wheelers easy to read style is absorbing and convincing. I enjoyed reading this almost as much as I did her novels. I'll certainly be trying out some of the recipes and principles of this diet plan.

5.0 out of 5 stars My kind of diet! 25 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Have not had a chance to try this out yet, but having read it through (no long pseudo-scientific lectures - thank you!) it encourages a sensible healthy diet rather than 'faddy' self denial. Love the friendly, informative style which makes it an easy read rather than the intimidating style of some other diet promoters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent summary of a healthy diet and lifestyle 19 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Lately I've become interested in food and improving my health through my diet. I have read loads of books on the subject and found Karen's book is an excellent, easy-to-read summary of everything I have read so far. After reading her book, I went out and bought some coconut oil and have been cooking with it ever since. I am also inspired to make stock from scratch. I thoroughly enjoy Karen's writing style. I can't believe JK Rowling has become a millionaire through her books and Karen has not ... yet!
