CD Description

The Many Sides Of Dave Edmunds is the definitive collection of a career that spans four decades. A true rock n' roll purist, Edmunds has never strayed far from the original rock n' roll sound of the 1950s. His career began in the 1960s as lead guitarist for the band Love Sculpture, before going solo in 1968. Edmunds painstakingly recreated the sound of the 1950's producers from Sun and Chess, often playing all the instruments himself. By the mid 1970s Edmunds' solo career had began to branch out into the formation of the band Rockpile. Although, mainly a live outfit, with Edmunds still writing and recording the albums on his own, their first collaborative effort, 1978's Tracks On Wax 4, became a critically acclaimed hit. Their next album Repeat When Necessary produced the single "Girls Talk," as well as the Top 20 "Queen of Hearts," both major British hits. Throughout the 1980s Edmunds mainly focused on producing other people's music, but returned to the forefront in 1994 with the album Plugged In. The Many Sides Of Dave Edmunds captures the remarkable sound and career of one of rock n' roll's most enduring and popular cult stars.

By Mr. Dk Hamm VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
This has to be the definitive collection of Dave Edmunds songs available. All of his hits are present (although some are not the original single recordings) plus loads of great album tracks.

Only four stars though for two reasons. Firstly, two of the tracks (I Knew the Bride and Sabre Dance) are listed as "take 2" which means that you don't get the actual version released on single. They are almost identical but for those of us who relish his music, the difference is noticeable and annoying. For example, on I Knew The Bride, the second chorus has changed and the instrumental is slightly different.

The second reason for deducting a star is the complete omission of one of his best songs, Deborah. Although not a hit, it was the lead single from his album Tracks On Wax 4 and is one of my favourite singles. I'll have to dig out those old tracks and add them when I put this on my iPod.

But overall, if you can live with those small issues (you may not be as fussy as me), what you do get is fantastic music from a fantastic artist.

ROCKIN' ON 7 Oct 2008
Format:Audio CD
Overall, an excellent selection of Dave Edmund's "Greatest Hits".

I would have given it 5 stars only for the recording quality of tracks 7 and 8....I realise they were like that originally (I remember the 45s!), but it spoils the rest of the album unless you skip them (which I do!).

Otherwise a welcome addition to my collection.

True talent 31 Oct 2009
Format:Audio CD
I was always a big Dave Edmonds fan, my old vinyls are about worn out so it was great to replace them. Bring back true talented musicians.

The Many Sides
Good selection of material. The CD is a fine showcase for Dave Edmund's rather quirky approach to rock and roll. Good value (20 tracks) full of memorable words and tunes.
